Eating & drinking at the same time??

Recommended Posts

It was told to me by my nutritionist that I should never eat and drink at the same time. I was told that I should wait 30 min after eating to consume liquids. Since my surgery, I don't think I've actually followed through with that suggestion once. Although, I do wonder often how big of a mistake I'm making. Does anyone know why this is a suggestion? And how detrimental it is to my body and/or health by not doing so?? If detrimental at all of course.

You should push for the science behind it from your surgeon the next time you see them, then make the decision on if it's a big deal to you or not. They say it's for various reasons but you really want to hear it from the person who altered your anatomy, then challenge them...they are the pro.

I challenge doctors *all* the time, but ultimately consider their medical opinions as valid and I'm portent when I finally come to a decision...

Safe Journey!

The before eating I find to be bunk, the idea is that Water pooled in your pouch/sleeve might help slide food through, the after is purely to avoid sliding the food through, both also are to help prevent food expansion from absorbing the water. I don't follow the before hand waiting, but I do the post eating if at all possible.

For myself personally, I find it uncomfortable to drink with meals. My surgeon has us wait a whole hour after meals. I have followed the guideline without difficulty.

You may not have problems now....

It affects my hunger level if I drink and eat at the same time. I feel more satisfied on a small meal if I wait 30 mins after I eat.

I, like Kim, find it very uncomfortable to drink while I eat. So, I do follow the 30 minute rule.

I was advised it gives the stomach time to draw and absorb the nutrients from the food,

Yeah no sense sending it on down the line until youve got all the nutriton out of it. But it isn't easy to not drink right afterward. Strength, my freinds, stay strong!💪

I am 3 weeks out today, still on pureed food but I find it extremely hard to drink and eat at the same time. I felt that I had a piece of pureed food stuck and took a small sip of Water, big mistake. From that point on I have set a timer on my phone for 30 minutes and start drinking then. : )

Things are that way on instructions. because by trial and error, these work best with no pain, trauma, or drama in your life. Treat your new tummy gently, don't rush things. You have the rest,of your life, this just is small bump on your journey. No matter how you study, the real life facts are not exactly what you expect. But stay srong, you can handle anything that will happen.

This has been my biggest hurdle. Before surgery I would drink about 3-4 glasses of liquid with a meal. I started bringing it down prior to surgery. I recently had Water the other day and it over filled me and made me feel sick. What I have been told in my pre surgery classes and post surgery support group that liquid can stretch the sleeve making more room for food.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
