I just need to share my excitement with someone...I’m 5 days smoke free in preparation for surgery. My surgeon said we can schedule surgery after I’ve been smoke free for 3 months. I’m finally on my way to 3 months! It took me about 3 weeks since my first appointment to finally quit but I did it. This is something I NEVER thought I could do but with the help of Chantix I did it.

Next I need to ween myself off of diet sodas. I drink diet soda like it’s Water so this is going to be really hard for me as well. Does anyone have any tips on weening yourself off of the stuff?

To be honest, I was unsure how this was going to go once I was told I’d have to quit smoking but now that I have, I really feel like I can do anything. This is the first time in a long time that I have felt that way! I’m just so excited and proud of myself that I had to share :)

Congrats on quitting smoking. It can be pretty tough giving up our demons. They sometimes tend to haunt us, but stay strong. You for sure got this!!! Just keep in mind the great new life your working towards. Good luck with giving up the sodas as well.

Congratulations!!!! As someone who kicked both in the last year, quitting soda was muuuuuch easier than quitting smoking! So you’ve totally got this!

I basically just weaned myself off of Coke Zero before surgery. I’m sure I drank some during pre-op, but I knew post-surgery I could not have it... and I haven’t touched it so far! :)

Congratulations! I'm at day 9 of not smoking. Try seltzer instead of diet soda or just ice-cold Water. Might as well try to get used to it now if you can.

Be careful with the carbonation... it's a big no no typically.

Congrats on quitting smoking!

I second the opinion on switching to flavored carbonated Water, like La Croix.

BUT, before your surgery you'll have to stop that, too, because carbonation is a no-no. But once you get off the caffeine/sugars from the diet sodas, it'll be so much easier to stop drinking the carbonated water because there's nothing addicting about it... except that it tastes good, lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
