mooreva0725 1 Posted October 8, 2018 I'm 2 weeks post op. The paperwork ik was given when discharged from the hospital outlined each food stage at 2 weeks in length, liquids, pureed, soft foods, normal diet. However, the weight loss center than I'm required to go to the nutrition classes through, are very adamant that I must stay in each food phase for a full month. What is yours like? I'm really curious as to why I was given such different information.HW: 227.6SW: 219.9Current weight: 209.6Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Wanda247 reacted to this
Diana_in_Philly 1,426 Posted October 8, 2018 We did our classes pre-op, but our phases were about 2 weeks. Discharged on full liquids (yogurt, Protein Drinks, cream Soups, etc.) Two weeks later, puree. Two weeks after that soft, two weeks after that full diet. (I was never so happy to see a scrambled egg as I was in week five.) Do the people who do the nutrition classes work with your bariatric team? My nutrition classes were taught by RDs who were in my surgeon's office so the program was continuous. In fact, they went through the stages with us during a 4 hour pre-op special class right after we got our surgery date talking about the pre-op and post-op diets. 4 clsumrall, Jingle123423, MargoCL and 1 other reacted to this

We had a class pre-op too and that is where they made us actually right down the dates we could start each phase and they were 1 month apart. At 2 weeks I can tell you though I've had scrambled egg twice already because it is allowed during the puree'd phase according to these people. But, yeah I have 1 month long phases instilled into me and then a couple days ago I pulled my discharge paperwork and they say pureed can start 2 weeks post op, stage 3 at 4 weeks and then normal diet at 6 weeks. And when I look online, I cant find a single website stating 1 month long phases so I'm just thinking, what the heck?Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
CrankyMagpie 509 Posted October 8, 2018 My program only refers to three phases--"puree" and "soft" are so close, anyway, that they just lump them together. Yogurt is considered phase II, not a liquid, so that's also a difference. They apparently let us start on phase II after the post-op appointment, 10 days after surgery. I'm planning to ask a lot of questions about what are the easiest foods to start with, then. In our booklet, phase II (puree and soft) is listed as "3-6 weeks," so I guess it varies a lot by individual. I'm not inclined to push things unnecessarily, so I am just going ahead and planning for 6 whole weeks; if at my 1-month post-op they say "you need to try phase III foods now," then I will, but I bet they don't push it, either. (But then, I can live on cottage cheese, ricotta, yogurt, refried Beans, lean meats, and mashed cauliflower for a pretty long while, because I genuinely like those things, which I get that not everyone does.) 1 Wanda247 reacted to this
J San 1,071 Posted October 8, 2018 My program was given to me by my surgeon and NUT that work hand in hand. There was no discrepancy in length from anywhere. I was on each stage for 1 week. Clear liquid, Full liquid, Mushy/Soft foods than pureed foods. After that back to normal food. It was noted that we could move on to the next stage or fall back on the past weeks if our bodies did not react well to any part. 2 Wanda247 and mooreva0725 reacted to this
Wanda247 908 Posted October 8, 2018 Mine was pretty much the same as @j San The first 10 days full liquids including Protein Shakes, 1 week of soft, 1 week of purée then full foods but was told to wait about 4-6 months before starting beef/steak and pork chops but everything has been working out fine so far, I’m tolerating everything that I’ve tried. I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op. I wish you all the best 1 mooreva0725 reacted to this

Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app I would contact your surgeon and NUT to verify the information. I have read some posts that have had 1 month long phases. Each Dr. is different. And just from what I learned through my surgical team it depends on how long their program has been in place. I made a comment post surgery and they responded with, "we're not there yet, hopefully soon" - But if you have contradictory information from your Surgical team and discharge, I would definitely ask about it. Based on the discharge timeline you provided - that's about how my post op plan went. I had my surgery on 8/20 and went into normal diet at the 6 week mark. I was given my meal plan twice, once by the NUT at my final appointment with her and by my RD during our Pre-op plan. Both were a part of my Surgical teams facility. Other than some minor verbiage, the plans matched 100% 1 Jingle123423 reacted to this
