CyndieRI 251 Posted October 18, 2018 Mousecat - I totally agree with your idea to abstain from certain “trigger foods”. I think of it like someone addicted to drugs or alcohol who can NEVER have that again. I plan to NEVER eat Doritos or barbecue chips again. I know myself enough to know that I can’t eat those in moderation. Good luck with you surgery!! 2 AndreaK. and ProudGrammy reacted to this
translender 2 Posted November 1, 2018 OMG, I'm going through a similar thought pattern at the moment. My surgery is not until early Feb 2019 and I first met my surgeon in August 2018 so I've had all this time to relax and not worry about dieting. On the other hand I've gained about 5kgs since then and I've got to get through Christmas and New Years yet. I will be starting a pre-op diet on the 21st January 2019 but I'm worried that I'm going to blow up to the size of a house before then. I have my first appointment with my dietitian in a couple of weeks and I'm just wondering... do they ask you to lose x amount of kilos from the day you see your dietitian or do they just ask that you lose for example 5 kgs from whatever you are at the start of your pre-op diet? I guess they are all different but I'm worried they want me to lose the weight from when i first saw my surgeon in August which was 5 kgs ago 😕 2 Tess0554 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
mnofz 9 Posted November 2, 2018 I'm going to try. Monday is my big trip to buy a ton of shakes and puree baby foods. I've already gained 10 or 15lbs since my first appointment. I am scared of when I go back, which is the day before my surgery, and I will have gained even more. Hopefully if I can stick to the preop, I can get closer to my starting weight. I have been eating every single thing I have convinced myself I will "never have again"... to the point of absurdity. Like a bucket list. I am eating worse than I ever have in my entire life, probably. I am really struggling to get on track. I had no weight loss requirement before surgery or anything, and my doctor knows I've gained weight but said it was okay at my last appointment with him. Because he said it was okay, my brain gave me a free leash to just go and eat whatever junk I can find. I'm struggling to stop. My lunch today was just a huge plate of potato and macaroni salad... followed, ironically, by an Atkins bar. My Breakfast was brownies and Doritos. And I don't even LIKE sweets. I have to start the pre-op liquid (I get one meal a day) diet on the 16th. Did anyone struggle with this coming up to their surgery? I saw some people in Reddit refer to it as their food funerals. Oooh I see you have had your surgery now, the day after mine! I did the same thing with my food lol. How I controlled it (and the money I was flinging at food), was to drink a shake for Breakfast and lunch, then whatever I wanted for dinner. Surprisingly, it worked. I didn't gain weight, didn't lose either lol, and it made the liquid diet sooo much easier to stick to! I lost 24 pounds in 10 days lol. I won't ever regret those things I ate... it was sooo good! lmg0512 0 Posted November 3, 2018 I’ve never posted on this site but this is so me.... extreme eating. I had the sleeve already which has helped tremendously with this. So there is hope. I’m with you man lol I get it!
Ldyvenus 317 Posted November 4, 2018 I'm slowly creeping up on my two year anniversary. food funerals are completely unnecessary. I ate like crap before my surgery as well. You are getting this surgery in order to change your relationship with food. You will be able to fit more volume as time goes on. Although it's never the same (think Thanksgiving with seconds and dessert) Your tastebuds may even change. This surgery is ultimately a tool that will help you separate head hunger from real hunger to help get you on track to making healthy, lasting, changes. cateckert 29 Posted November 4, 2018 I experienced the same thing, I just had to go through it.
DaleCruse 756 Posted November 4, 2018 I was sleeved four years ago. There's not a single thing I can't eat now. Sure, I eat a lot less food per serving, but there's nothing I can't eat anymore. We create so much anxiety for ourselves, convincing ourselves that we'll never eat certain foods, we'll never eat out again, people will treat us differently, & we'll never enjoy life again. And you know what? All of that is made up in our heads. Good luck to you. You are not alone. 2 1 summerset, ProudGrammy and Tess0554 reacted to this
Mama_Gee 12 Posted November 4, 2018 I am having surgery on Monday 11/5/18. Only preop is liquid diet today and magnesium citrate. I ate Japanese food for dinner last night and pizza for lunch. Friday I shared a steak with my husband & 2 glasses of wine. I am freaked out because I have had a lingering cough for 2 weeks that has not gone away. Probably allergies. But afraid of pain from coughing post op. AND I have a fatty liver.

madscientistmommy 124 Posted November 5, 2018 I am almost 7 months post op and 99 lbs down. I have eaten chips, candy, ice cream and I even had a glass of wine on my anniversary. I do struggle with eating some things too much (chips, Halloween candy). I don’t really enjoy drinking anymore, so that’s been easy. I have been giving myself permission to throw away the extra of trigger foods. It would be very easy to keep eating a handful of chips. Every 15 minutes. Until the bag is done. But I also don’t want to say I will never have bread or chips ever again. It will always be a struggle for me, but it’s so much easier now.
