Hello! I am new to this forum. I had my surgery 9/24/18, which was 10 days ago. I am wondering what can I eat? As of now I am still doing full liquids I have a booklet from the doctor but it is extremely confusing lol. I am really craving some wheat thins and cream cheese ( would that be too risky?). Any recipes or tips would be great.

If you are confused, please do not feel bad calling your doctors or nutritionists... after the amount of money you've just tossed to them... they are there to help you... you paid for it... use it!

Do not eat any wheat thins or cream cheese this soon post op... just, don't do it.

Did they really install a band on you? I'm shocked that they are still installing these things in people with all the problems and companies stopping production.

That aside, give your doctor / nutritionist a call and speak with them, have them tell you want you can cannot eat.

If your directions say full liquids, then it's full liquids, no chunks, no chewing. Everyone's plan is different...

  • Water
  • Broth
  • Jell-O
  • Decaf tea
  • Decaf coffee
  • Sugar free Popsicles
  • Sugar free jello
  • Sugar free drinks that are not carbonated
  • Thinned Creamy Broths / soups
  • Protein Shakes
  • Diluted Milk
  • Diluted no-sugar added juice
  • Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero, electrolytes without sugar

Overall if you're unsure, I would follow up with your NUT or surgical team

The band is so totally different for food restrictions it's pretty crazy. You don't have to worry about content really as there is no dumping or any other food related reactions other than quantity and "texture". From what I recall, I was on liquids for all of a day. Then it was purees for like... A day. Then soft solids, then normal foods. Chew until puree before swallowing and the same no drinking while eating. It was a long time ago for me... but I do recall it was so totally different than when I was revised to the bypass. Same surgeon did both, same team. So many differences!

When I was on full liquids, lentil Soup was my life saver, such good flavor after all the clear liquid stuff

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
