My sleeve was June 13th and I've had no real issues or problems, thankfully. But since Sunday morning I am struggling with getting my fluids in much worse than ever since my procedure. Every time I swallow it feels really weird in my throat like I've gulped a HUGE amount when I haven't and food made me nauseated when I would start eating. The nausea is better, but any swallowing (even little chunks of greek yogurt popsicle) is followed by that weird golf ball feeling in my throat/chest. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Hot vs. cold beverages feel the same. About the only food that doesn't feel awful is scrambled eggs. This all began Sunday morning and Saturday night I ate grapes for the first time at a party. I also drank some alcohol. Just trying to put it all out there to help figure out what this could be caused by... Can a stricture happen at this point? Could I have gotten a grape stuck in my sleeve? Starting to worry!

Stricture

Formation of stricture is another potential complication occurring after LSG. It could present either acutely after surgery due to tissue edema or more commonly in a delayed fashion. Presenting symptoms include food intolerance, dysphagia or nausea and vomiting. Although kinking of the stomach following LSG has been reported,23 the most common site of stenosis is at the incisura angularis.24 An upper gastrointestinal study or endoscopy is usually diagnostic.

I read a lot about the different WLS procedures out there. It amazes me that there isn't some kind of standardization of preventative measures like the following for instance:

"If the staples fired are not aligned appropriately, it can predispose the stomach tube to undergo torsion along its long axis. Such a twist can be avoided by properly aligning the staples and by placing tacking sutures to the omentum and new stomach tube."

If you end up going in for an endoscopy to find out what's going on, ask if this simple stitching procedure was done.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
