Hi All! I had surgery on 09/24. I have a dreaded drain tube. It bothers me when I walk, when I sit, pretty much when I do anything. I have it clipped in to my binder and taped so it doesn’t pull. How many of you felt better once your drain tube was removed? Mine is scheduled to be removed tomorrow.

Ah, I will also have to have a drain unfortunately. A little tip I was told by my ex (who also had the surgery) is to clip the drain to a lanyard while you shower.

Hope you are recovering well. Congratulations on your surgery. I had it for three days. Annoying yes but I have experience worse things in life. It will be removed and a thing of the past for you. Great things coming your way.

Ugh. Cant wait to get mine out this Thursday! It's hard to feel "normal" when you have a tube sticking out of your gut. Sorta worried about the pain of getting my removed but honestly it's annoying me so much I dont even care.

I had mine for a week. I was in pure misery. I couldn't walk, it hurt to sit up, and it was super annoying trying to shower. As soon as it came out it felt so wonderful. I didn't even feel it. I felt almost normal. I was able to do pretty much anything.

How long are they generally left in for? Don't they usually take them out before they send you home from hospital

I honestly think it's up to your doctor. My friend had hers done with a different doctor, it was removed before she was discharged. My doctor likes to leave them in for a week.

Wow, that seems like a long time to have a drain, bleh. I'm sorry you had to live with it for so long.

I just wanted to say how weird it feels when they take it out - so bizarre, like a snake moving around in there. And it was comically long, the doctor looked like a clown pulling a big line of handkerchiefs out. 😂

Honestly it wasn't that bad! I didn't even feel it. He was talking to me the whole time he did it! I heard him cut the stitch and didn't feel a thing. He held it up and said it's out! I started to cry.

Yes but the general rule is less then 20 cc/mL in 24 hours then it’s ready. Some people have them for a few days, some for weeks or month. Mine is still putting out too much liquid but I’m hoping if I cry he’ll remove it. Every day it’s in is another risk of infection. Plus, the bandage is somewhat difficult to take off yourself so you’d need someone who isn’t squeamish. I’ve been to urgent care twice at $30 a pop just to have it changed.

Praying it’s out today. Supposed to be yesterday but no one called me back. If it isn’t out today I’ll cry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
