Percentages of Protein Carbs, Fat

Recommended Posts

I think you kind of want to look at Keto or low carb type diets pre-op because that seems to be the post-op lifestyle for most people. About 20% carbs and the rest Protein and fat should make up the percentage of your daily calories.

No Terry but I sure will be following also. Step 2, which I am still supposed to be on is 600-800 calories and 55 grams of Protein. But beyond that I am at a loss as to,break down, I know mine is too low in calories to be a permanent solution, only, for 4 weeks and supervised. Supervision is in Columbus, I'm 48 miles NE of ther, don't see them until October 9th.😭

Pre or post op?

Pre-op should be about 40% Protein and 30/30%. I imagine you could also do 50% protein and 25/25%. Your current activity level could have an impact also. This is what my program stipulated.

It's about daily grams of Protein requirements not percentages of diet intake

If you are talking about post op and the typical 600-800 calories a day with a minimum amount of Protein, then yes. I think some posters are assuming that. That is why I asked if pre or post op.

But if pre-op, or even at maintenance, I think we can agree that one can't have unlimited fat and carbs if protein goals are met.

I'm setting up the goals in My Fitness Pal manually. Has anyone come up with an ideal ratio for Protein, carb, fat intake?
This is currently my macros for 6 weeks post op. My daily calories alternate between 600-700. I should mention my macros are approved by my surgical team. Screenshot_20181001-174128.jpeg

I should also mention that my goal is more than 60g of protein... so I try to hit that first, and the rest fall in line.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
