HELP! where to go

Recommended Posts

Hi. I do not know how this works exactly.. but here goes!

I have ALWAYS struggled with weight. my whole life has been yoyo diet.. I have tried everything, sometimes i have even been successful and lost a lot of weight but i can not manage to keep it off. I have hit a all time low in my life. I have decided to have a GASTRIC SLEEVE but i am struggling to decide what clinic to go to? I keep looking through fourms and reviews and i can not seem to pin point one or two clinics that make me feel 100% confident to go ahead and book a consultation. Can anyone help/share where they went and how they narrowed down their search?

thank you

I am not in the UK sorry I can't help there. But just a thought, you may want to change your user name from your email address to something else.

If I was in the UK I would want Dr Shaw Somers from the 'Fat Doctor'! Jokes aside, if only every doctor was as caring and compassionate as he.

Welcome to the forum. There's LOTS of resources here, both pre & post surgery.

My suggestion is to contact the bariatric surgeon nearest you. Schedule a consultation. Talk to the surgical team. Get to know them. Let them get to know you. If you have a good rapport, pursue your surgery through them. If you don't feel comfortable, try another surgeon/surgical team.

Be careful not to let your own apprehensions about surgery make you unable to decide which surgeon to work with.

Good luck. You are not alone.

I've had the same thought about Dr. Shaw Somers! I wish all doctors had his demeanor. I think he sincerely cares and understands his patients. There was a teaser on YouTube about a season 5 but that was 4 years ago.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
