Can you drink pop?

Recommended Posts

Can I? Yes. Do I? No. Too much sugar and pointless for me now (unless it has a shot of whiskey). Stick to Water or flavored water. Stay away from the carbonation.

I think the bigger question is

Soda vs Pop...

Just joking, ask your team. You'll get alot of answers here on either end of the spectrum but your team will have statistics on whether or not there is a correlative aspect to drinking it and regain in their specific practice.

here's a couple articles regarding soda after WLS:

http://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/drinking-soda-after-wls-debunking-the-myth

https://www.livestrong.com/article/347882-carbonated-drinks-after-a-gastric-bypass/

The key is that you don't want to drink liquid calories. Also, you want to be cautious on how carbonation affects you. If you decide to drink diet soda, you want to make sure it doesn't cause excess gas that gives you discomfort. This is especially important during the healing process, up to 3 months. Also, that you are avoiding drinking and eating at the same time (which is the same for all liquids). Some programs allow carbonation, some do not.

Personally, I only drink Water and crystal light. My team advises against soda, coffee and any other drink that has an excess of carbs, sugar and carbonation.

For me, soda is like a gateway drug lol. If I drink that then I will eat the tons of chocolate and carbs. Do I miss it, sure! But I just drink a crystal light and the feeling goes away

I know that this will upset quite a few folks on here, but yes you can drink it. Should you drink it? NO! I have to admit that I drink a Kickstart from time to time due to the sheer amount of hours that I work. I pick Kickstart due to the low amount of calories, and before I start drinking it I get rid of most of the carbonation. It is not something that I do often but I will drink it when needed. Outside of that I do not touch anything carbonated, and choose not to drink my calories, I refuse to gain my weight back and get caught going back to my "sweet tea, Pepsi, or Dr Pepper" habit. If it were not a necessity trust me I would not even drink them, but after being up for 20 hours and having to take the last call of the shift, and then go work my part time job for the next 12 hours its needed from time to time. And to be honest with you it really does not taste that appetizing once the carbonation is out of it! I know someone will ask why don't I just drink coffee and the answer is that I hate the taste. And by the time I put about 20-25 packets of sugar and about a third of a cup of Creamer there are far more calories in my version of coffee than in a Kickstart.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
