8 days post op gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi I’m 8 days post op gastric bypass and I still feel miserable. The pain is a lot better but I feel nauseous and don’t want to eat. I hope this nausea doesn’t last forever. When does it go away?

You shouldn't be "eating" this close post op anyway... you should be on full liquids and purees only.

It does not last forever and it will go away and you'll be fine once you heal up.

Just stay strong and focus on all the reasons why you wanted the surgery. it *WILL* get better.

How are things going @ Midwest Girl? Is October treating you any better than the waning days of September did?

Hi Frustr8,
I’m doing much better. Got through that rough patch. Just a little pain still from my incisions and threw up once from eating too fast. In the puréed stage. Thanks for checking on me!

:-I* belch and gag and then it k8nd of rolls out, and sometimes I don't belch , i foam for a second. and it rolls out, and the final one I can feel Precious Pouch clench up and then start pushing it out, that's the closest,to projectile vomitting..
And I know human anatomy, really I do, but it feels like Dr Needleman removed Precious from the abdominal cavity, and placed her on top of my diaphragm, when she is actively cramping and spewing, I can " splint" her by putting 2 fingers across above my topmost trocar scar between my breasts at the bottom of my sternum. And there are times she hurts so much, out pro0or589th 59 5he size she m7st be. Am 8 the onl6 9be this happens to?

maybe if you could read past,my Smartphone's rambling . Lets see, out of proportion to size she must be, I wonder if I am the only one this happens to? There, nice and slow and it almost makes sense, doesn't it?

And my friend Kathie ditched on me, now I need to find alternate transportation. If I can't do Friday , I can't be assured another until post Thanksgiving, and possibility January 2019. So I am racking my brain.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
