Recommended Posts

Hi,
I’m actually from Paraguay and I’m getting my surgery done in Brazil. Any tips on what to pack for the first 10 days? I don’t even know how many sizes I might change and what clothes I will tolerate. I’m also starting to get very nervous PLEASE any tips of any kind are welcome

How long will you be gone? Just the 10 days?

I stayed local for my surgery and packed very lightly for my overnight hospital stay and my week at home I stayed in loose comfy clothes. The following week I returned to work and still remained in loose clothing because anything "touching" me was an irritant. So for 2 weeks I lived in maxi skirts and dresses.
Weight loss is different for everyone, I came home from hospital (30 hrs later) weighing 5 lbs more than when I went in and it took 3 days too lose those 5 # and another 5 to lose 5 more.

Yes, Just the 10 days than I’m coming Home and back to Brazil for the 20 day checkup. So I should take clothes that is currently loose because there won’t be much difference in the first 10 days? I was wondering if I could use jeans for the flight back home but from your response I’m guessing it’s a no

you can wear jeans, but I doubt you will be comfortable. Honestly I would just wear something comfortable. I don't know how long your flight is, but honestly the last thing you want is to be on a plane with restricting clothes. I would also make sure you pack a bottle to keep full with Water. You will definitely want to drink as much water as possible (even though your body will resist) this will help prevent blood clots.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
