Cash cost in the US

Recommended Posts

I'm new here. BMI bounces around 34-36 and I don't qualify re other health issues. So I have read the bypass surgery (have GERD so not looking into the sleeve) cost around 10K. Is that inclusive of the hospital stay, surgeon fees etc?

That's going to vary a lot by state. It's cheaper in Las Vegas, I hear, but here in Pennsylvania a self-pay surgery is going to cost me around $12k for the sleeve (which is an easier surgery to perform, so RNY would cost more; sorry, I'm not sure how much). That includes one night of hospital stay and the surgeon's and anesthesiologists' fees, plus 1-2 post-op visits. It doesn't include any of the required testing or the required meetings with the nutritionists and psycologist beforehand, but a lot of time insurance will help with those things, even if they're not covering the surgery itself.

I live in Kansas City and paid $15K for the by-pass. It includes Everything. KU Medical Center. Surgery is next Monday. Wish me luck.

Saw somewhere recently that Bariatric Surgery,is cheapest in Sour Dakota.. Is this true? I have heard of reduced rates in Michigan, Louisiana. Florida, Nevada and Texas, is this true?, is a pot at the end of the rainbow for someone seeking a more budget friendly area?

I have been doing my research for several months now. I was set
On ruling out Mexico but I keep ending up back to the OCC. I’m seriously leaning towards dr Ortiz.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
