Aunt flo is killing me! Any advice?

Recommended Posts

Like seriously! Pre surgery I was an avid blood donor. Now I'm constantly on the verge of needing a transfusion. I take around 90mg Iron. I cant take birth control because of liver problems. I was thinking uterine ablation or something to help lighten it. Any advice?

Could you do an IUD? I'm normally not an advocate, but in your situation if you can't take BC pills, I would recommend something to regulate your hormones and cycles.

Have you met with your gyno since surgery to discuss your increased flow?

The confusion, messed it all. Its like putting in your money for gumballs and getting instead gravel. You're left standing and wonder--- What am I going to do with THIS?

I was a heavy bleeder for years (long before WLS). I would advise you if you are considering having children then DO NOT get an ablation. If you become pregnant after an ablation there could be fatal complications following. Have you spoken with your GYN and have you had an ultrasound for uterine fibroids? For me, my PCP wanted me to have a transfusion and I adamantly against it as we didn't know the cause of my excessive bleeding. It turned out my uterus was full of fibroids the first time 14, the largest size of a canteloupe. The second time I had 7, myself personally, I had decided I would not be having children so I went through with an ablation including permanent birth control Essure. It was the best decision of my life as my periods went from a HEAVY 8-days to a spotting max 3-days. The procedure was done in 2010 and I have zero regrets. But again, if you are planning to have children or more children, this should not be an option at all.

I can't do anything with hormones my oncologist says and the copper IUD doesn't help with periods [emoji17]

I heard of some problems with Essure. My husband got a vasectomy instead but I'd get it if it meant I could be free from anemia

I haven't had an increase in flow. It's my normal flow and I'm struggling with Iron.

I don't want any more kids. In fact my husband had a vasectomy. I hated being pregnant with a passion lol.

I see, I didn't know that about the IUD. Also, I apologize, I misunderstood your first post, I thought your flow increased since surgery.

I ended up going to see a blood specialist about my Iron levels, because my bariatric team wasn't equipped to help me level out my iron. That would be my next suggestion.

I thought the 8-days heavy was "normal" too - I could never donate blood like I wanted to because my Iron was so short.

I would definitely talk to your GYN and discuss all your options. I do know that if the fibroids get worse (they've returned) - my next option is hysterectomy. I'm not ready to go there yet. I'm hoping I can talk him into 1 more ablation before that route. But I'm also hoping that the weight loss will decrease the amount of estrogen my body produces to eliminate fibroids

I've heard some problems with Essure in the last year, but like I said, I had the ablation (Novasure) and Essure at the same time 8 years ago. I've had zero complications since. - Your body will still produce eggs and hormones, but the two procedures have saved my life.

Have you talked to your OB/GYN? Now that I can’t take birth control pills ( due to blood clots in my lungs ) my doctor is going to prescribe a non hormonal pill that will cut my flow and period time in half. I will have to get the name for you when I pick up my script.

I had novasure ablation and a tubal. Pre bypass was either extremely light or non existent. Since surgery is like I never had it! My surgeon said that while my pcos symptoms are getting back under control they could be like this

This is my second period since surgery and I’m HURTING! First probably not so much since i was in pain killers. I never had cramps or heavy flow this early on in period (day 1). What do you all use for pain? This liquid Tylenol is not helping and is this normal after surgery?

Did you just ask for a blood specialist or were you referred? Sometimes requesting a specialist is a nightmare through my medical group ugh

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
