6 weeks out and having trouble. Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 weeks post-op tomorrow and until 2 weeks ago felt great. Now I'm nauseous all the time and still can't eat much. I struggle to get down more than a few bites of anything and it still has to be pureed. Anyone else experience this?

You are still healing, So take it easy, but certainly make sure you inform your surgeon and nutritionist. If you've got a stricture or some other mild complication, it might need to be looked into, always make sure to keep your surgeon in the loop on stuff like this.

Omgash I am 4 weeks post op today. Just like you Ibwas great pre ops, during and even 2 wks post. But honestly the translation to pureed/soft has not been easy for me. I struggle with finding food that sit well with my new tummy or I find myself struggling to get a couple bites in without having the urge to throw it all up again because it feels like its stuck in my throat and as it goes down it hurts like hell. [emoji30] [emoji17] [emoji85] . My one length follow up isn't till Oct 15th but I am going to call to get a sooner appointment. I get back to work tomorrow first time after my surgery and it makes me worry that with fast pace hectic work like mine I wont have time to get my liquids or Protein in. I honestly dont know what am I doing wrong. I'm trying to keep it as clean as possible. I even put a chewing timer on[emoji87]

Sorry you are not feeling good, you should talk to your doctor to be safe, I got my surgery 8-7-18, lost 12 weeks with the 2 week liver shrinking diet and 18 after surgery, total of 30, was 238 before surgery, surgery day 226, 208 now, of course I am happy with progress just not sure I am doing it right, you seemed to loose quite a bit more, are you doing anything special?

I've struggled to eat, so that may be the difference. I literally eat 2 tablespoons of yogurt, or applesauce and can't get anymore down without getting super nauseous. I started on Zofran today so I'm hoping that helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
