coolfatperson 3 Posted September 23, 2018 Hey y'all, my surgery is on November 30th. I used to be thinner than I am now (like... 130 lbs thinner lol) but I feel like when I was lighter, exercising wasn't so freaking HARD. I feel like even the smallest amount of exertion and I'm exhausted, and I hate that. I feel like all of my limbs are so heavy and I'm lugging my own body around??? Have y'all found that exercise is any easier post-surgery? I'm planning on starting off with simple walking until I'm cleared to swim, because I love being in the Water, and I want to introduce little fitness classes as well. Just wondering what the experiences have been!
KimTriesRNY 1,853 Posted September 23, 2018 Absolutely it’s easier. Ask anyone that has lost a significant amount of weight if they want to strap that weight on and just go about their daily business let alone go for a run or get on an elliptical or do a five mile hike. Do not worry, once you start to lose weight you will notice everyday activities become easier, and it just slowly becomes easier to be active and exercise. 2 Jingle123423 and CrankyMagpie reacted to this
Naughty Glitter Goddess 645 Posted September 24, 2018 I was having a terrible time with exercise tolerance before surgery. I'm almost 6 weeks post op now. I did some basic walking before surgery and was usually winded 10 min into my 30 min walk. It sucked. But, I got back into my walking within a couple of days post op and for me, my exercise tolerance was better within a week. 2 weeks post op I was back in the gym doing elliptical and treadmill, easily making it to 30-45 min. I'm currently doing short warm ups on cardio machines and focusing on weight training. My muscles feel tired after my workouts but I have a ton of energy. I feel like an entirely different person already - so much stronger. 1 CrankyMagpie reacted to this
sandygs 18 Posted September 24, 2018 I envy those with this new found energy. That's the very reason I had the Sleeve almost 4 weeks ago, for my health. I was tired of being tired. But so far I haven't had any burst of energy, I'm still quite tired. I plan on returning to the gym soon, hopefully getting some type of exercise will help increase my energy level. Vizslamom 92 Posted September 24, 2018 I'm down 30 pounds between pre-op and 8/22 sleeve surgery. Walking has gotten much easier. No more daily Alleve for pain. 30 minute dog walk feels fine. I started daily light cardio DVDs. Just start slowly and as you lose you will feel much better.
