Newbie with a couple questions

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I've posted a couple times over the past few weeks, but have been reading posts on this site since july when I first began thinking about pursuing this surgery. I just want to thank you all for sharing your experiences here. I already feel I've learned a great deal from all the helpful posts here.

With that being said, I finally have a couple of questions of my own to ask.

1). Does your pouch or your remainder stomach growl anymore after the surgery? The reason I ask is that I have a stomach legendary for it's growls. I teach English at anuniversity near Cleveland and students are amazed at how they can hear my stomach sometimes all the way in the back of the room. What a wonderful NSV that would be if that could go away lol.

2). I'm sure others have asked this before, but how much actual hunger have any of you experienced in the days/weeks/months following surgery? I've heard so many different answers to this, and I'd be interested in hearing yours as well.

Thanks again! 😊

My stomach never growled pre-surgery, and now my husband calls it "my baby dragon".

I am 2.5 weeks out and didn't get hungry for a week, then started getting hungry. The difference now is a fill up quick. My husband can't believe how little I eat.

I’m the opposite, my stomach has not growled since RNY but use to post op when I was hungry. I seem to have different hunger signals now. I just get kind of an empty feeling or feel a bit nauseated when I need to eat. I’m 3 months out.

Re: stomach growl. I work from home a few days a week, one day I was sitting at the computer working through some super boring tasks and was wonder why the dogs were fighting. Turns out, it was actually my stomach. It will make some hot mess noises after surgery. LOL. as far as hunger goes, the true feelings of hunger where your stomach hurts didn’t return until this week. I’m 6 months out. But just a little snack calms it down. I don’t feel the need to eat anything and everything that isn’t nailed down. LOL

My stomach growls and I get hungry. I have been hungry since the second week of surgery. I was hoping I wouldn't be but I am.

My stomach gurgles and growls in a silmilar way as it did preoperatively.

I get hungry but it is not the gnawing type of hunger I used to experience where I felt I needed to eat and eat. I am satisfied with so much less food, and it takes me longer to feel really hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
