Nope.

Pain is 100% subjective to the person experiencing it.
My levels of pain are not going to translate to anyone else.
It's invasive surgery. You'll be given medication to dull the pain.
Other than that... anything anyone tells you is only their experience.
I've got a super high pain tolerance, the surgery was super easy and not really painful at all, I've had pulled muscles that have hurt more. I didn't need any help when I got to my room after surgery. I connected and disconnected all things when I needed to walk or fill the collection container.

The only significant pain I experienced was within a few hours post surgery. I was woken up by the nurse administering my pain meds but I just wanted to sleep. She told me if I could sleep I did not need any meds, to which I said fine and went back to sleep. I woke up some time later with PAIN and NEEDED the meds. Other than that the "pain" was mostly just discomfort and only noticeable when getting up from a seated or lying position.

I had a rough recovery. RNY sposed to take 90 mins to 2 hrs ended up taking 5 hrs cuz of scar tissue (lapband to sleeve revision in 2013, then rny revision 6 weeks ago). I counted the minutes until my next pain med was due. I was in the hospital for 4 days, as I wasn't drinking enuf and they had to restart my iv. I cried when the dr told me they were keeping me another day. I just wanted to be at home in my own bed.

It's now been 6 weeks and I think it's like having a baby - u forget what the pain is like! I'm 100% (by the week after my surgery I was 100%) and not regretting it at all. The day after I had it, I had diarrhea and a iv pump to haul around, and my bathroom was flooding so I had to walk down the hall to the employee bathroom (later, they moved me to another room, thank God - I regretted it. I woulda rather had reflux. Hubby kept reminding me I couldn't live with reflux anymore.

Having said that, most people take Tylenol afterwards and run a marathon by day 5. U won't know till afterwards. I hope for u a smooth recovery and less pain Good luck!

So I was in so pain probably they first week but had pain pump in hospital the first 24 hours then had to crush oxycodone. I’m the biggest baby ever so lol and the worst of the pain was in the hospital. Tylenol only now if anything hurts. I’m almost 4 weeks out

The pain from the gas was the worst for me. Inflated abdominal cavity, made me feel bloated for a week plus after. Trying to breathe or laugh immediately afterwards was very uncomfortable. The breathing exercises helped.

The pain from the incisions, the worst of that was over in a few days for me. My abs were very sore for a few weeks, but as long as I didn't try to move my abs they were okay.

I woke up/came to as they were wheeling me from recovery to my room and every bump/jostle hurt so bad I thought I'd cry. Next, I wanted Water - they gave me ice chips - which made my new stomach do this weird very painful hiccup. Again, I thought I'd cry. Once I sipped water instead of having the chips, all was well with that. Otherwise I had a massive gas pain in my left shoulder that took about 4 days to resolve.

I seem to have relatively low tolerance for pain immediately after an injury or after waking up from surgery, but then I'm generally ready to go and walk/run within a day or so. Day 3, I was raring to go (my surgeon has a 2-night stay for bypass patients).

Probably the only other thing that hurt like mad for me was Day 2 when I went to do the swallow test and they tilted the thingie back and I wasn't prepared. Gravity made it hurt going backward, and again when they stood me back up. I got a bit dizzy from that pain, but was fine once they got me back in the wheelchair.

I hope they give you good pain meds!! That's the only thing I'm worried about. My pain tolerance is pretty low. I try to be tough but then I tend to let my pain go so long it's hard to get it under control. I'm having knee surgery in a couple of weeks for a torn meniscus and anything else is bad in there. My second knee surgery on the same darn knee! Frustrated.
