Question for those banded more than a week

Recommended Posts

I am back in college and the desks are small. I tend to lean forward to take notes and the desk hits my stomach in the area where the incisions will be. I can lean back and they won't touch but I am concerned that sitting in that position 6 days after surgery is going to be painful.

What do you think?

Wear pants with an elastic band or low-rise pants, and a bra without underwire. If I sit up straight, it's fine, but if I crouch in my seat with the wrong clothes, it kind of cuts into the incision areas.

What about carrying a small pillow to put in front of you? Would probably help, but you'd have to decide if you'd be okay with carrying a small pillow with you or not. I'm sure your classmates won't care.

Good luck!

I agree with these suggestions. If you don't want to tell and anyone asks, you tell them that you had some minor surgery. If they ask more questions, you just repeat that you had minor surgery and if they are persistent, you just say that you'd rather not talk about it.

I teach at community college and every one of my students in four classes knows that I had minor surgery because I had to cancel class. Only two asked me about it. One of them, a student closer to my age with whom I have become friends, I told and she has been very supportive. The other was just curious and accepted it when I told him I didn't wish to talk about it.

Good luck!

I've read that some people use benadryl cream around the incision to help with itching.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
