November surgery scheduled

Recommended Posts

November 8 is the big day. I am nervous and excited, sometimes seemingly paralyzed by fears and other times bursting with hope for my future. I don't drink soda, but I drink a lot of bubbly Water. I am giving that up as of today. I am also trying to get used to not eating and drinking at the same time. If you have any other tips for me to incorporate over these next 50 days before surgery, I appreciate your insights and encouragement. Thank you!

Congrats on getting your date. Some advice....

Look over your program and see what's not allowed. Slowly start cutting those things out like you are doing with your bubbly Water. Research foods and recipes for the different stages so when the time comes you have ideas or know what you want to try. Much more but I'm drawing a blank right now. Don't worry though, I'm certain you'll get many and more suggestions from everyone here. One more though from me. Read this forum, you WILL learn so much from all the posts and question and answers. I have learned way more here than was told by my surgery team. Whenever something new was brought up I already knew about it and very rarely had any questions.

Good luck to you!!

Congrats on scheduling your surgery! I will be getting mine done in November too on the 6th! I don't really have any advice yet but I am doing the same thing as you-trying to cut out those things that aren't allowed after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
