A few questions + my background

Recommended Posts

Hey, I’m Joey I’m from New Jersey. I’m probably one of the youngest people to be on this forums as I just turned 17 at the start of this month. I was 390 pounds at my highest, 375 pounds in the day of surgery (08/28/18) and am currently 345 lbs. at the moment I’m super worried because this morning I gained a pound for the first time. I do pretty heavy exercise 2 or 3 times a day and pretty much eat the way I’m supposed to with a very few modifications. If anything I’m eating less then I’m supposed to. Why did I gain a pound? Also how much 16.9 oz Water bottles should I have a day and how long should it take me to finish one? Thank you!

Hi Joey! Don't worry about a 1-2 pound fluctuation. Those are completely normal and don't mean that you've done anything wrong. So long as your overall trend is downward, little bumps along the way will happen, especially if you weigh everyday.

Hi Joey, welcome.

It's still very early on and your body is still adjusting, I wouldn't worry too much about a 1lb gain in the short time since surgery. Your main focus should be on meeting your Protein goals of 60 - 90 grams and Water goals, minimum 64 oz - but ideally you probably want upwards of 100 + oz of water. In terms of water bottles minimum 4 - 6 16.9 bottles.

Hi there,

I was told by my team that we will fluctuate within a range of pounds based on various things like hydration level, sodium levels, time of day, bathroom habits (or lack thereof), recently illness, medications, carb intake, etc.

An overall downward trend over a period of time (instead of upward) is what you ate looking for. So if you fluctuate within say 5lbs of a weight but know your habits are on point with your plan, don't worry.

Safe Journey!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
