On The Way To Being Banded For Life

Recommended Posts

You wont still be swollen by the time you can get a fill. By the time I was okayed to get a fill I was fine and you will be too. Your sister would probably be more understanding if you called her and explained to her that it would be helpful "for now" while your on liquids if she ate before she came over or she could have a nice bowl of Tomato Soup with you! Be honest with them, they will respond in their own way but they will be aware of how you feel. Because thats hard, right when your getting your appitite back... If it helps, schedule your fill now for 4 or 6 weeks from your sugery date, what ever your doc goes by then mark the days off on a calander. Each day marked off is a day of success. Sometimes a visual is helpul.

Preciouspup, can you feel your port if you rub your hand across your belly?

Will I feel my most success, after my first fill? I don't feel no restriction right now and its myself thats stopping me from pigging out. Can and can't wait to see the pounds melt away.

Yes I can feel my port. It's kinda wierd to feel something under your skin isn't it. You will see your most success when you get to a proper fill level. Sometimes that takes more then one fill. For me it was my 3rd fill. Kinda frustrating but well worth it once I got there. I lost slow to begin with, so don't beat yourself up if thats what happens. Right now it is alot of will power. It will get better!

It's nice that someone else knows how I'm feeling. Whoever created this web site, did an awesome job. It's nice to communicate with someone who been through, what I'm going through. Thank you preciouspup for your great advice.

Went to my first post appt. Loss 9 pounds since banded on Nov. 14. I'm now able to eat pureed food. On my way, on my way. Anyone who reads my post and is having second thoughts on surgery, the pain is worth seeing the pounds go down. The pain last for a number of days, but the weight loss can last forever. Pride of my band.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
