Any one go home the same day ?

Recommended Posts

I was going to ask my surgeon the same question. I honestly feel like I heal much better at home Andean never relax in the hospital. I was planning on asking him the next time I see him.

I had my surgery on 9/5. I prepared for this for one year. Nothing could Have prepared me for the recovery period. I planned on staying one night in hospital, and ended up staying three nights. My surgery was on Wednesday morning and I went home Saturday night. As I am writing this, I feel pretty good, and each day I feel that I am getting better and stronger. Day two I was vomiting blood, and for the remainder of the days I was not able to keep one thing down.

I highly recommend you staying in the hospital at least 1 to 2 nights. I know that everyone experiences things differently, and we are all different and how we recover, but for me it was a tad bit rough. I was not vomiting up fresh blood, it was all blood that was just residual from the actual surgery in my stomach, I had the VSG done by a very renowned surgeon. He is one of the best, and I completely trusted him with this entire process, and like I said, I feel better each and every day and I am so grateful to God, but please do not try and go home on the first night, stay in the hospital and let those nurses help you.

My surgery was done outpatient at a surgery center. I was home by 3:00 the same day. I'm glad I didn't have to stay overnight.

After being on this forum I have come to a conclusion that every doctor does it differently, and I think everyone heals at a different rate. I am 5 weeks out and lost 50lbs total including 2 week pre-op diet. Haven't had any problems eating (but taking it slowly). It seems to get better every day!!!!

I begged my way out after one overnight. Surgeon was surprised that I would ask for this, but I felt fine. Sleever here -- I suspect this makes a difference in recovery?

Yeah, folks who do RNY have an average of 1 extra night's hospital stay.

I don't think my team will let me out, day of. Which is almost too bad, because I'm afraid of hospitals. Even if I have no pain, no nausea (yeah right), I will be really uncomfortable the whole time I'm there. But having medical professionals keep an eye on me for 18-24 hours after surgery feels like a good idea.

The IV Fluid can also do wonders for rehydrating you while you recover, and you camt get that at home. Think of your hospital as place to receive CARE, and you deserve that after surgery. (And part of the care package is getting up and walking)
You'll do great!

I had surgery on 8/25/18. My sleeve was outpatient. They sent me hime as soon as i woke up. I live in Florida. I was very nervous about not having a hospital stay, luckily everything went great but would have preffered an overnight for piece of mind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
