I'm pre-op and I'm getting conflicting information about Snacks. My nutritionist gave me suggestions for healthy snacks, and then she gave me a meal plan that said absolutely no snacks. Now by snacks, I'm not talking about mindless Cheetos in front of the tv. I'm talking about a planned, portioned, healthy snack such as string cheese, fruit, nuts, Protein Bar, etc. With previous weight loss plans, when I was on-plan and doing what I was supposed to do, I did best if I brought a snack to work. I work long days and it keeps me from gorging at dinner. Maybe I just won't be hungry enough for a snack after surgery, I don't know. So do you snack?

I have healthy Snacks if I'm hungry. But I don't have any planned snacks, like some plans have (i.e. 3 meals + 2 snacks).

Oh, and my restriction keeps me from gorging. But hunger can sometimes make me make unwise choices.

My medical team gave me my initial instructions 6-8 meals for Liquid Protein intake.
During pureed phase 4 -6 meals
During soft phase 4 - 5 meals.
Solids 3 - 4

But my NUT has ALWAYS encourage 3 meals with 2 Snacks focusing on Protein first

I definitely snack. There’s not all that much difference for me yet between Snacks and meals! Is a 1/2 cup of green yogurt a meal, or a snack? How about a Protein bar? Either way, it’s eating 5-6 times a day. Protein first.

My plan states at the "lifelong" stage to - Eat at least 3 meals per day. No more than 6 meals per day (Include Snacks, nibbles and Protein drinks).

I think the confusing thing with our plans is the way the wording is used. Post surgery I guess snacks now classify as a meal because it's about the size of a new normal meal now. Maybe the way your plan is written no snacks means no snacking or as some call it, grazing? So count a snack as a meal but do not graze on anything over a long period of time. And of course always try to make a healthy choice.

Im on soft food phase right now and haven't been able to snack. With getting all your Water in and your Protein in and maybe one/two soft meals, there is no time to snack at this stage. This is a full time job doing alll that! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
