TX4everLinds 115 Posted September 15, 2018 Wondering who really struggled with nausea vomiting or heartburn right after sleeve surgery. I am really having a hard time keeping anything down. Yes, I am following all the instructions, no I’m not consuming too much. I take 2 sips of Water and then have a burning sensation rise in my throat that then makes me drool and I only find temporary relief if I am able to burp or vomit. Is this part of the process? I have tried OTC solutions such as gaviscon, emetrol, gas x.

Lena809 31 Posted September 15, 2018 Yes this is normal, I had the same issues... I had a hernia repaired so I’m sure that didn’t help either...I am close to 4 months pre-op and still get nauseous and vomit....I told my dr and he prescribed me nausea meds, it does help...I believe because I have a weak stomach, I was nauseous throughout all my pregnancies too, so that’s what it feels like... Ed_NW 684 Posted September 15, 2018 Seems like most people buy the over the counter Prevacid or Prilosec right after the VSG. Your symptoms seem to be pretty common (according to my obsessive research lol) so the only question will be whether this becomes permanent or is just temporary during the healing process. Hopefully it's just temporary until the swelling goes down. Good luck.
fluffy562 110 Posted September 15, 2018 I'm not a doctor but Ive acquired reflux. I'm really hoping this is temporary. Did the doctor prescribe reflux medicine?
TX4everLinds 115 Posted September 15, 2018 Dr told me it’s likely swelling and tough it out basically.
MargoCL 677 Posted September 15, 2018 I had to experiment with with Water and fluids to find the right temp (even today 4 wk post). I was also given a prescription for prilosec with my surgery because heartburn is very common. Take it slow, experiment, and take your PPIs and know this too shall pass
