My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. I have done a lot of research and am really excited. Just wondering if anyone has some lessons learned to share. Is there anything you would recommend doing before the surgery? Anything that you thought would be helpful to have at the hospital? Or anything you learned after the surgery that would be helpful to know or do?

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Hope all goes super smoothly.

Definitely get some full-body pics and measurements now. Your brain will play tricks on you later! I thought chapstick and a toothbrush were the most important things for the hospital.

Best wishes!

I organized my pantry, cabinets and refrigerator to suit me andake all of my iteams more easily accessible. Everyone else had to struggle a little to get to their items... Oh well

I brought baby wipes to the hospital to substitute for the baths I'd miss

Congrats!

And chargers!

Don't buy too many Protein supplements and other items for the liquid/puree/soft food stages. You will be eating very little. I gave or threw away so much food!

most of the stuff I learned hereworked for,my benefit. My A#1 the 10foot charging cord I bought at Staples, kept my phones, and yes I took more than 1 the second was marshmallow, the third Nought both with better camera resolution. But my Verizon has unlimited minutes.😛

Everything your thinking about taking to the hospital don’t lol. Maybe chapstick and charger (i didn’t care where my phone was) lol. Use that pain button while you can and don’t overstock on items like Protein Shakes, powders or broths. Good luck!

From watching YouTube videos I thought I wouldn’t be in so much pain afterwards. I was wrong and I wish SOMEONE would have told me. I was so upset and wish I was more mentally prepared for that part. I thought I was having complications because of the pain but my surgeon came up and told me it was perfectly normal. Also, I “sharted” on myself day one of being home. Again, something no one warned me about. So be careful when you pass gas post op. It will save you some embarrassment. GOOD LUCK!!! It starts out tough but then it’s gets easy!

Yes. I bought several containers of bullion thinking that I would be drinking it a lot for pre-op. On day one I made a 32 oz container of chicken bullion. It grossed me out so bad that I won’t touch it now. If anyone needs bullion just let me know!! 😂

Oh that’s so good to know. I too thought the pain would be pretty bearable. I’ll have to be ready for that.

As for the “sharting”, that is so embarrassing when it happens. Does anyone know if I can do a cleanse the day before?

I’m usually very cold in the hospital and was planning to bring a warmer blanket. Is it normal to be hot after this surgery? Was it the medicine causing it for you?

Not sure - I think it wasn’t unusual, the nurses were prepared with bags of ice and cold packs. I assume it was post-op/anesthesia related

After the 6hrs of being hot did you get cold or just comfortable after that?

A mag citrate cleanse was required for me the day prior to surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
