Hi all

I am day 11 after my gastric sleeve surgery. The surgeon advised us at the hospital to only take tiny sips 3 minutes apart of all liquids for 3 weeks or we risked getting a leak.

I wondered if this was true? I haven't seen any other advice supporting this and a few times I have accidentally taken a larger sip at much shorter intervals without any discomfort.

Can drinking too much Water or liquid cause a leak?

When you have stitches or stables in a line in your stomach, until that wound heals you don’t want to put too much pressure on it. I think that is the basis of his advice - don’t pressure that delicate stomach until the tissue has done a good job of fusing itself. Three weeks seems like a good guide.

I have never heard of someone taking a gulp and springing a leak, he is being cautious and although the risk might be low the consequence of busting the seam is bad. But that time will pass real quick!

3 Weeks, that seems reasonable,to give yourself time to heal, it is like a Brand new BABY,but it is internal.,You have just gone through,so much physically, think how your body, must feel, it was hard on it also.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
