What restrictions were you given for your pre-op? For example mine was 2 weeks of full liquids.

Hi flower

just keep reminding yourself - this is the hardest bit, hunger-wise! You don’t have the tool yet to help you change your eating - but we expected to be able to do the behavior change! I remember thinking ‘how come they think I can do this? If I could, I wouldn’t BE fat!!”.

Two more days. Count them. Two. I focused on “make hunger my friend” - when I felt hungry, I reminded my self that for this short time, that was my success signal.

You can do this - it is SO worth it, for two more days or wrangling that awful feeling...

If you're on full liquids there are plenty of yummy Soups out there (no chunks of course). I ate diluted broccoli cheddar, clam chowder, chicken, I lived on chicken Bone Broth for my 2 weeks post surgery and even 1 of my pre-op weeks. You can have SF Jello, popsicles and of course the numerous flavors of Protein powders. I bought myself a variety pack for my preop and fell in love with the coffee flavors.

Call and see if you can get your diet adjusted. On mine, I was allowed all the celery I wanted, which sucked and was helpful at the same time.

Thank you. I will look into Soups. I thought it was just Bone Broth and I hate that lol

Progresso had a great chicken cheese enchilada Soup. I could've drank that all day

!!! That exact Soup was just about the first thing I ate after the post-op liquid phase! I agree, it's great!

It's really hard to find where I live, only 1 grocery store sells it. But it got me through pre-op.

Yes, strain or just not est the chunks.
You will be fine. I was nervous about it, but it was surprisingly easier than I ever would've imagined.

It was postop on the same diet that got harder.

If you can cook, then I really suggest homemade Soups. I strain them anyway so taking contents out and serving separately has always been the norm and the Protein from bone broths will help keep you feeling fuller.

I am on day 6 of Clear Liquids. I can only have broths not full Soups. What has helped me most is wonton Soup (hold the wontons) from my favorite Chinese restaurant. It has flavor and sustenance. Its tough bit we will make it. 11 lbs down in 5 days.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
