Oh my chicken is rough

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!!!! I have found recently that my sleeve is not happy with chicken anymore. I thought I was eating too fast or taking too big of a bite because it was kind of painful, but then my sleeve started to outright reject chicken (it was like it was pushing it out). Chicken is a great source of Protein and getting all my protein is hard, any suggestions to help me out with this? I can still handle ground turkey and pretty much anything else I just don't want to get stuck with very few choices. I am 6 weeks out and down 30 pounds!!!! I am happy with my sleeve it's just the chicken thing has me concerned.

It might be to dry. Try eating it with a little gravy or something to moisten it. That's what my dietician suggested for me and it worked.

Thank you I will have to try that, it's rough when the sleeve starts to push it back out.

Don't worry about chicken this early on. Try again in a month or so. Chicken (especially breast meat) is one of the more difficult Proteins to handle.

@Orchids&Dragons thanks, it had me a little worried. I'll try again at my 3 month mark 10/30.

At 6 weeks, you just might not be ready for it yet.

At the risk of repeating things you already know make sure you are chewing it well! You need to chew your food more now, than ever before. And eat slower. Your meal should take 20 minutes. Try smaller bites too. And make sure you are leaving time between when you last drank, your stomach needs to empty out before you try to fill it back up again.

Try making a chicken salad out of it. Dice it up and mix with low fat mayo, might help it go down easier.

I agree with another poster, dry chicken is much harder to go down, make sure you are not over cooking. If you are cooking too long to get center cooked, then chicken is too thick. I slice chicken breasts in half to reduce the thickness. Actually cut it into three parts,. I cut the tail end of, then slice the chicken in half along the table top so I have three generally even thick chicken parts.

Thanks a bunch....I've done all you have suggested and I think it's just one of those phases my sleeve is going through. I'll try it again at the end of October my 3 month mark.

Not unusual, I can barely tolerate chicken breast meat at 11 months - no matter how I fix it? I can however do well with grilled thigh meat - yum. Also just now can handle lettuce, so thereis that too. It slimed before 😣

Well I will not be trying again until the end of October at 3 months LOL.....I am dying for a salad, hope if I use spinach and spring mix it won't give me slime!

Everyone seems to call it something different. My dietician called it the foamies...its what happens when you eat something but dont chew it well enough or your stomach doesnt like it so it vacates it through making you vomit. Lots of foam and or slimy spit comes up with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
