Let me just say if your going to write a judgmental, non medically educated opinion please keep scrolling. Thanks in advance. Anyways today I met with my NUT first time post op and it was great. I read a lot of post on here and people talk about what you can’t eat, shame you for what you decide to eat or even for asking for an opinion. So it can be very confusing when trying to figure out what’s good and what’s not. I had a bad reaction to sugar alcohols in sugar free items. Protein Shakes were causing me to vomit and I wasn’t getting anything real in. Yesterday I got so sick and tired and she told me I wasn’t getting any CARBS. Yes CARBS. She said carbs are the primary source of energy so even If im getting my Protein I can still feel weak which I was because I was trying to avoid carbs. She told me that she would never advise anyone to avoid a food group because that alone causes new issues. thAt while you need to be aware of eating better that the focus is Portion Control and it’s unrealistic to expect someone to never eat rice or Pasta or sweets again. learn to replace carbs if you know you want a slice of cake later. I feel so much more prepared to take on real foods now. What’s your NUT advise?

I had the same issue. I was initially told to avoid carbs. But I was so nauseous about a week out from surgery they said it may be ketosis making me sick. So I added in some carbs, that helped a bunch. They recommended going back to low carb, so I did for about 2 months and then I had issues with my blood sugar dropping and me being really tired. We did blood work and Vitamins were normal. It ended up I was just burning through everything. I workout 5 days a week and am a nursing student in clinicals so I don't stop moving. [emoji28] but we added in a little carbs. I don't count fruit or veggie carbs and limit others to 20g a day. I'm 9 months post op and down 95 lbs. I'm not complaining. BUT I don't recommend anyone changing it up without consulting their nutritionist first. Everyone is different and has different food triggers.

My program limits carbs and fats at the beginning. Carbs should only come from veggies. Later we can work in carbs but still keep them low. I don't have any issues at this point so sticking to what is suggested is not a problem for me. That's great that your program turned out the way it did, It allows you to do what you need to without stressing. You seem confident and I'm sure you will have no problem being successful.

My NUT said to aim for carb grams to not exceed Protein grams at every meal and snack.

I’m about to start clinical in the spring. I hope to lose a good about by then so I can keep up with the rush. Good luck with that I heard it’s intense, but well worth it. I can’t wait

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
