Choosing life

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow morning I will have my bypass surgery. That will begin my physical journey. 7 months ago it began mentally when I decided to live life instead of just existing in life. People keep asking me if I'm scared. How can I be afraid of living life again? The next few days will be difficult and I am sure I will have setbacks ahead but thinking about just watching life go by and not participating in it is much worse. Time to say goodbye to diabetes and a handful of pills each day and hello to a better life.

Now just grab the reigns and enjoy the ride. You wont believe what you find along the way of this lifetime of better health life. Good luck and keep posting.

Congrats man! That whole mentality was a driving factor for myself as well, My labs and everything were good, even if I was over 320 lbs, and sure I was "medically healthy" but clearly that wouldn't last forever. I had to weigh out the risks of surgery vs the risks of not having the surgery. Pretty much a no-brainer!

Good Luck on your surgery and moving forwards!

Good luck to you! It will all be worth it. I’m only 1 week post op and so happy I made this decision. Don’t get me wrong I had buyers remorse the first few days but that is to be expected

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
