I use the ceramic straightening iron.. they do get hot and I have extermely thick curly hair and am also a licensed cosmetologist..it is reccomended you only use it once a week so it does not damage your hair. In between washings I just use a shower cap to keep out and moisture or steam when I shower or bathe..my hair stays straight until I wash it again...Metal flat Irons are much much hotter then the ceramic flat irons and are extremely damaging. It is hard to curl with them unless you just want to do the ends under or flip them up, they are not designed to roll like a curling Iron due to the high intense heat. Hoding the iron at the roots of each strand you section is key to getting maximun straightening , and I section my hair off into little sections which also helps to get maximun straightening affect.

Lisa you look beautiful :(

I haven't tried a curling Iron, and I probably won't. I suck at doing hair. I've never been good at hair styling and usually just end up in a pony tail. My hair is horrible to manage cuz a lot of cows licked my head, so it's just all wirey.

Wow, Lisa, you look mahvelous!

I have a friend at work that has the biggest, roundest red curls I have ever seen. I sincerely thought she had one awesome perm when I first met her, but found out she had natural curls. This poor girl gets up some mornings and spends hours straightening her hair like that and it's gorgeous. She has so much it just takes forever to wash and dry then straighten too, but it is really pretty once she's done.

That thing looks like it really works and it really does look good on you. My hair is like yours, not necessarily too curly, but it's got it's waves and such and is not slick. It's very open and pourous which causes it to just do what the heck it wants. It's so frustrating sometimes. I have so many curling irons now, I may just have to invest in a straightener too, just for variety. :(

Leatha, you always say the words that are trapped in my head! "It's very open and pourous which causes it to just do what the heck it wants." That's what I've been trying to say for 30 years but couldn't get the words out. I guess porous hair holds a lot of invisible moisture, which is why it gets so poofy and frizzy. This gadget is cool cuz you can see the steam leaving your hair - even when my hair has been dry all day. You'd think someone would invent a Shampoo to keep the moisture out, not in!

I'm loving my new thingy.

I'm a curly gurly, and a couple of years ago I finally found the secret to managing curly -- use a good de-frizzer and leave it the heck alone! No brushing, no combing, just leave it alone! While I've never gotten a guitar stuck in my hair, I have gottten other things stuck...

What is a good de-frizzer? I don't recall ever getting a guitar stuck in my hair, but once I rolled my bangs up in a round brush to dry them. The brush got stuck. After ripping out enough hair to cause a lump on my head, they had to cut the brush out, leaving me with choppy Baby-Doll bangs. I think I'll start a new fun thread for stupid stuff we've done.

Thank you. I slept on my new straight hair last night, and it sure is nice waking up to somewhat manageble hair. I combed it and it's still looking pretty good.

While I'm lovin' my new Iron, I also want to say how much I love my Roomba (vacume robot.) I could vacume my office in less than five minutes. But why would I do that when Roomba can do it in 20 minutes while I sit on my big butt? It works best when I close it in one room at a time, so I check posts and my little companion cleans my office floor. I love it, I really do! And she keeps me company, I swear, she knows I'm her mom - she comes near me when she wants to be emptied. I don't feel so alone when she's buzzing around my feet. She's on the charger now, so I kinda miss her, but my Roomba rocks!

Frizz-Ease is a good defrizzer, although I am currently using the Garnier Fructris. I also use a curl activator and a shine spray. I am constantly amazed at how well these products work, espeicailly when I take a day off them.

Frizz Ease makes my hair worse and really hard to manage. My hair isn't curly, it's just wavy in all the wrong places. If all the waves went the same way, I'd probably like it. I'm stuck on my new ceramic Iron. I used to wash my hair every single day, now I can stop all that damage cuz I only washed it once all weekend.

Thanks, Vera, but it's just my hair that got skinny. I gained 5 pounds. Boo hoo.

And Paula, stop being so cute! Darling pic, you look fantab!

Just wanted to let anyone with huge, frizzy and unmanageable hair know that I still LOVE this product and use it all the time. If I'm in a hurry, a few runs through the top layers of my hair smooth things out nicely. Great product.

Lisa...

Do you think it works on really thick hair? I've got a ceramic Iron (from wal-mart) and it just works so-so because I have to divide my hair into sooooo many pieces.

I recently got my hair whacked off and I'm having to learn to fix it all over again. (Long hair is so much easier than shorter hair IMO!)

Maybe I could sell my magic bullet that I haven't used since liquids and use some of that $ for beautification purposes? :)

My friend Tina has the thickest hair in the world, but she loves this thing. But you are right, it takes her an hour cause she has to make so many sections.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
