Wow! What a rough journey!

You deserve all of the health and happiness that is coming your way!

Rooting for you!

The first 2 weeks after surgery are usually the worst, not trying to be a downer. Just want you to be prepared and know that it only gets better from here!

Thank you very much, I appreciate it!

So, I actually forgot to add something in my lengthy post: every time I've had surgery on my intestines, they do not "wake up" very quickly. When I had the original surgery in 1995, I did not eat for 11 days. The second surgery in 1995, I did not eat for 9 days. The surgery in May of 2017, I did not eat for 7 days. And, the surgery in August 2017, I did not eat for 17 days. The bariatric surgery will not be the surgery that dictates when I can leave the hospital. With the surgery on my intestines, they will not let me leave until I can eat at least a full-liquid diet. (of course, the bariatric diet needs me to be on full liquids before I leave the hospital too, but it may be a week or more before I even start eating anything)

Having said that, I am hoping that my intestines wake up quicker this time. I was in the hospital last August for 25 days total, and I did not eat for 17 of them. It was not fun...

Your life story is so touching...you are so brave and very positive. I know you will do good, you have a lot of support here.

Please keep us posted buddy ((hugs))

I appreciate you saying so. I've never written down everything that has happened to me until I wrote this. It is quite a lot, but when you live it, it does not seem that bad.

I'll keep everyone as posted as I can. Only a few more hours until my surgery!

Wow... you are an inspiration and you are definitely a fighter. Sending good wishes to you on your surgery tomorrow.

Thank you for saying so. I do not think of myself as a fighter, but I appreciate you saying so. It is very nice to read all of these well-wishes. I'm not very good at taking compliments (you may have noticed that) but I'm open to them. I am learning to accept kind words from others. It has been my experience that they are rare for me. I'm definitely not used to it.

Thank you again...

Thanks for opening up like that. It takes a lot of courage to share your struggles in such detail. It will help a lot of people facing the same uphill battle. I hope everything goes well for you today.

Thank you for saying so! I appreciate it. I actually have never written it down and re-read it. I have been through a lot but I've survived and now I hope to thrive.

Surgery went well. I will share more about it tomorrow

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
