October 2018 Sleevers

I know it's impossible not to worry or compare your journey to someone else's but, I honestly think we are all doing great! I mean, when would you imagine losing over 35 pounds in 3 months? I am on the slower end also (3 months today and 38 pounds down since surgery) and I am damn happy with it! I find that not weighing yourself often and also not to worry about the weight is a big helper. My surgeon was pretty happy with my results and even told me that he believes, at this rate I can get down to 165, although my goal is 150 I am pretty excited about realistically getting close to that...I also prefer to lose slowly to avoid losing too much muscle mass rater than fat...so I am completely OK with my journey and not stressing about it at all! I know you heard this countless times, but it will come off.

I just got back from a 5 night stay at an all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya. I weighed myself before I left and when I got home and I lost 1 1/2 lbs! I didn’t think I could ever do that on vacation! I’m so glad I had this surgery!! ❤️

That’s awesome! Where’d you go? My husband and I are going there at the end of March! Can’t wait!

I haven’t posted in a while. Life gets in the way! I had my surgery October 16th. I had my three month follow up with my doctor last week. He was very pleased with my progress. I’m down 56 pounds since October 2 when I started the liver shrinking diet and 43 pounds since the surgery.

Here are some of the amazing things that have happened to me (besides my weight loss):

I’ve lost 26 inches all over my body

My old clothes fit me now. In fact some of my size 16 are big!

I can fit into some XL’s!

But probably the most amazing change is that life has been very stressful lately, dealing with two sick parents who live far away. I’ve traveled several times to visit them in the past month and the old me would’ve turned to food to help me cope but I haven’t! I feel so much more capable of dealing with my stress because of all of the work I did beforehand. I’ve realized that food is not that important and that I’m not going to let it derail all of the work I’ve done!

I hope you’re all doing well and feeling great!

We stayed at Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun (long name - lol). It was fantastic!! And the room even had a scale which I loved having! I weigh myself every day (I KNOW you aren’t supposed to but I do) so being able to do that while I was away was great for me! Enjoy your trip! Where are I staying??

Were staying at Unico 20 87 in the Maya Riveria. I can’t wait!

Most of the time when I eat now my stomach makes a lot of noise. It’s embarrassing as others can hear it too 😞. I talked to my surgeon about this on my 3 month check up and he stated that noise is from air being in my stomach but I don’t know how that is possible. My stomach never made any noises prior to my surgery

You’re so close! You’ll be out of the obese category in no time. Just keep on doing what you’re doing!

Loosing my hair like crazy.....I started to loosing my hair post Menopause about two years ago so I have been taking two Biotin nutrients a day plus Purador Hair loss Shampoo. My nutritionist also informed to to also start taking collagen pepitides powder daily. Still my hair is falling out crazy amounts. It’s not from a lack of Protein I’m eating plenty of that. Does anybody know how long the hair loss continues or here is a better question when does it grow back?!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
