Got my surgery done on 10/30, had some complications but was discharged yesterday 11/02.

Do you guys put some antibacterial ointment on the drain incision? Also, do you take off the bandage before showering and put it a new one after?

Hi Freiabr. Glad you’re home! I had my surgery on 10/16. I had a drain they took out before I was discharged. I didn’t put any ointment on the incision. I did take the bandage off before I showered and then put a clean one on. My doctor said he didn’t want a wet bandage on the incision. Had the staples taken out a week later and you can barely tell there’s a scar there!

Best of luck to you!

Had my surgery Oct 26th came home the 28th. I never had a drain my Dr covered my stitches with Water proof gel I could take a shower as usual just couldn't rub the area. The gel is still on as of now it falls off on its own.

I had mine on October 10th. No drain for me either - and the same waterproof gel. Mine fell off in about 12 days. I had one left at my 2 week checkup but the PA pulled it off. Never had a problem with the incisions!! 👍

Well ... the Soup is made - broccoli, spinach and cannelloni Beans in chicken broth and skimmed milk powder and chicken stock cube... have put it through my nutribullet and then watered it down to a very watery consistency... it’s very delicious but but but... I can only eat about 2 tablespoons!! I’m now really full! What am I going to do with the 5 gallons that I’ve made!! It will take me over a year to finish... even though I’m freezing it! I’ll need to buy another freezer! You must all come and visit - there’s plenty for everyone!! lol 😝🤪

Thankfully nausea has subsided but I’m finding it so difficult to get my Water or food down. It feels like everything is kind of sticking right behind my breastbone. It feels weird and every sip makes me burp. I’m also so tired!! I’ve been walking for 10 min every few hours. Just struggling and looking for advice.

Thanks! This is exactly what I am doing although there was very little like a drop of discharge on the bandage this morning kind of light yellow that's why I got worried.

Welcome home! What were the complications? How does it feel to be home? They gave me some additional dressings for when I shower - mine are Water proof but they might need changing... not sure about the ointment...:)

My surgery went well, but I started coughing on the 1st day and by the afternoon my oxygen level was down to 79% and my lungs had a lot of wheezing. I stayed 3 days on oxygen, doing nebulization every 4 hours and my Oxygen was at 83% they were very concerned I had pneumonia or something worse, I got 5 x-rays negative for that so the pulmonologist thinks I have asthma that was never diagnosed. They discharged me with the condition of seeing me Monday to check my oxygen level and do some more tests to figure it out what's going on. I didn't have nausea or much pain, I didn't even use painkillers there and was walking 5 times a day totally independent if it weren't for the respiratory issue. Much better being at home with hubby and kids and although I still having a lot of wheezing I am doing way better.

Sleeve 10/29. lunch today - 4 oz TJ's tomato/feta Soup with 4 oz Water. Put in a blender, then strained through a sieve and heated up. Yum! Unfortunately, the first time I tried this, I tried to add a little Protein Powder and it clumped. Anyone know how to incorporate Protein powder into soup without it becoming a gross clumpy mess?

Question - I'm walking a couple times a day. I was measuring by the laps around my row of townhomes. I've now put on my fitbit, but not sure if I should set step goals or what they should be. How is everyone setting their walking goals after surgery (I'm not yet a week out). Thanks!

What are some of your plans for thanksgiving or holiday meals? Any thoughts ideas on eating with family or meal preparations and recipes beforehand?

I'll be at the tail end of puree stage, starting soft food stage by Thanksgiving. Assuming I'm able to eat this by then, I plan to make myself some baked ricotta for Thanksgiving and take it to my friend's house. It basically tastes like lasagna without the noodles. If I can really eat, I may put a thin layer of pureed butternut squash in the middle.

The baked ricotta is a really good idea even with the puréed butternut squash. I will be almost 8 weeks out so I’m still trying to gather ideas to be social with family but still stick to my own goals. My family is so used to me cooking meals for them every holiday... My new options may disappoint many.

I'm trying to approximate one of my favorite meals - Cooking Light's Butternut Squash lasagna (it also has a layer of spinach/onions, but I figure I should start a bit more simple than that) :) Luckily, I dont have a family to cook for. Although my friends usually ask me to make a pie. Which I might still do, given that I typically bring a pie I don't particularly like and will have no trouble avoiding.

I didn't have a drain. I had glue and within a week two fell off, then by week two they were all off. When I had my lapband placed, they used steri-strips, which I like better (incisions seemed better aligned and scars looked better/invisible).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
