October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

So my journey is a different, I am 36, British and I weigh 96kgs , but at 5ft 8 my BMI is 30

I am not eligible for this within our healthcare system so I’m electing to do this, I’ve raided my savings and have flown to Turkey to have a surgeon complete a Gastric Sleeve. My motivation is two fold, being more healthy for my young daughters and also to make a lifestyle change for my own benefit. I want this change now in my life.

I’m a bit nervous, surgery is tomorrow and I am just landing in a foreign country where I don’t speak the language! Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I can join you October sleevers tomorrow for the next steps.

Eeeekkk!

Congratulations skodes. Good luck on your new journey. This boars has helped me understand im not alone in my journey and helped with questions ir siggrstions from others that have already been there.

Just wondering.. has anyone dealt with a feeling of pressure in your stomach that lasts a couple days?

Been dealing with this since yesterday.. still hasn't gone away.. going to go for a walk with my mom this afternoon.. hopefully that will give me some relief.. walking is still tough for me.. I'm still very heavy.. so I get winded fast. But ya my surgery weight was 475 down from 495 at my highest.. I have my first post op consult on Thursday so I'll see what I've lost since last monday.. had surgery on the 22nd.

It probably helps that I'd seen how many complications were possible with other medical procedures, so that particular piece of paperwork didn't scare me. (Even the upper endoscopy had a long list! And it was a 5 minute procedure.)

I was scared before surgery, but I kept reminding myself that this is one of the safer surgeries out there -- safer than gallbladder removal (which is often done outpatient!) and joint replacement. Also, my surgeon has never (knock on wood) lost a patient, and I knew I'd follow the rules and do everything they told me, to maximize my chances of coming out of the surgery healthy.

Also, my options were "get this surgery now and maybe get a break from my arthritis" or "chicken out and keep losing mobility and eventually end up with diabetes and heart disease because I can't exercise." So, pushing myself to get over my fear seemed pretty important. Your math might be different, though, and that's OK. ❤️

Thank you I will look into this maybe it will ease my mind as well.

It's an uncomfortable feeling of fullness and pressure right in the middle of my gut.

I had the same feeling several days following my surgery. It was all gas. I founf Gas-X helped a little, but walking helped massively. Even if it's just a few laps around your room or back and forth to the bathroom. Also eating too quickly creates gas and pressure for me instantly. Take small, small bites and try to get that gas/pressure out :) I hope that helps! Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
