Had my new baby tuneup 10/24/18! It’s an amazing feeling not being able to eat because your bored or stressed. It’s nice to be able to cleanse your body and start fresh. Not easy but a good feeling.

So my journey is a different, I am 36, British and I weigh 96kgs , but at 5ft 8 my BMI is 30

I am not eligible for this within our healthcare system so I’m electing to do this, I’ve raided my savings and have flown to Turkey to have a surgeon complete a Gastric Sleeve. My motivation is two fold, being more healthy for my young daughters and also to make a lifestyle change for my own benefit. I want this change now in my life.

I’m a bit nervous, surgery is tomorrow and I am just landing in a foreign country where I don’t speak the language! Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I can join you October sleevers tomorrow for the next steps.

Eeeekkk!

Hi there, The nurses seem lovely although the language barrier is daunting. Mind you hearing that your body is 38% fat is no good in any language!! So surgery is 8am tomorrow- I am nervous but excited. X

Just had my sleeve surgery October 26th 3 days ago do anybody know y my inner shoulders may be hurting I thought maybe bcuz during surgery they had my arms laid out like the cross. Then I wonder if it's gas I just don't want pneumonia the Dr told me U can get that just wanted to know has anybody experienced this pain it doesn't feel good. And how is everybody consuming all of these liquids its so hard to do I get full quick then my stomach hurts smh

I had all kinds of weird back and shoulder pain after surgery. Might have been the gas they used, might have been the hospital bed. It did clear up after a few days at home, doing lots of walking around the house.

Did they give you the breathing tool ("incentive spirometer")? If so, use that a few times an hour, and you should be able to keep pneumonia away! I have asthma and get bronchitis every winter, and I did not get pneumonia from the surgery; I'm sure the spirometer was a lot of the reason why.

I made it. I'm 3 days post-op and trying to figure it out. No pain but for some reason I feel like I'm starving and that scares me ... maybe my brain and body haven't connected all of the dots. Strange.
I feel the same way. But its getting better

Just reporting in. I had my surgery 10/15. My doctor did it through my navel as I requested and I will have no scars or marks (I know they are tiny anyway). I spent 2 nights in the hospital and a very painful first week. The second week I worked from home and resumed some activities like washing my hair and being human. I'm tolerating lots of foods like mushed avocado, mashed potato, hummus, yogurt, and Protein Drinks. And since I know a lot of people wonder about going back to work, 2 weeks later I am at my desk job, tired but doing fine. My only stall far was Constipation related, I think. Considering all we go through to do this, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you for sharing. I had my surgery on the 25th i go back to work on the 9th of nov

Hey guys, I’m scheduled for nov 7, I went to my pre-op appointment with my surgeon and they gave me the consent papers to sign. Omg I freaked out when I started reading all the risks and complications possible.. how did u guys over come this fear.. help I’m having second thought now....😞

It probably helps that I'd seen how many complications were possible with other medical procedures, so that particular piece of paperwork didn't scare me. (Even the upper endoscopy had a long list! And it was a 5 minute procedure.)

I was scared before surgery, but I kept reminding myself that this is one of the safer surgeries out there -- safer than gallbladder removal (which is often done outpatient!) and joint replacement. Also, my surgeon has never (knock on wood) lost a patient, and I knew I'd follow the rules and do everything they told me, to maximize my chances of coming out of the surgery healthy.

Also, my options were "get this surgery now and maybe get a break from my arthritis" or "chicken out and keep losing mobility and eventually end up with diabetes and heart disease because I can't exercise." So, pushing myself to get over my fear seemed pretty important. Your math might be different, though, and that's OK. ❤️

At day 3 I was pretty close to 48 oz of liquid, counting the Protein Shakes. Sometimes Protein Water settled better than shakes. And premade shakes settled better than ones where you mix Protein Powder with milk. (Those are still a little much for me, close to a month out. I have to go really slow with them, or "water" them down with tea or Decaf coffee.) Some people water the premades down, to drink them, in the early days. I found Jello settled better than any other "liquid," which is so weird.

(My team didn't make us get beyond 30-40 grams of protein in the first week. Aim for 70, sure, but really, just do your best. Some programs put people on Clear Liquids for the first week, so any protein you get inside you is going to help, compared to those folks.)

It does get better! Drinking gets easier, very soon. Just do your best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
