October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Thank you @frustr8!

The first week was so easy and every day got better but this second week has been so tough. So much nausea today. Getting my liquids in is near impossible. Headache. Feeling generally terrible. I wish things were getting better every day. Instead, each day seems to bring a new and crappy symptom.

One day at a time. This too shall pass, I know.

Good luck to all pre and post op.
In case you were a pre op don’t be scared. Just think about the new journey you will engage yourself in. Life changing. The first two or three days might be difficult but this is all. I got back to normal life the fourth day. I haven’t stayed in bed for one day. I suggest you do the same. Of course don’t be hard on yourself.
To post op hard luck keep thinking about it as a motivation every single day.
My operation was on October 15, i have lost 6.2 kgs since then

Had my surgery done on the 16th of this month, the same day I developed extreme shivers that lasted over six hours, and my blood pressure dropped to 60/30, and my heart rate was in the 170's. I freaked out just about all of the nurses that were staffed on that floor, and had about 4 with me the entire time that was going on. The weird thing about the shivers is that I wasn't cold, and I was in fact sweating so much that I had to get changed about four times, and same with all my bedding. Of course the shivering also messed with my incision lines, as they kept having to changed bandages with all the bleeding.

Getting my pain under control has been a nightmare, as they aren't willing to give me most IV painkillers in fear of it causing another shivering episode, that also goes with the nausea medicine. So far all the meds I have are in liquid form, which is really hard to take when your stomach is rebelling so much. I'm hoping that the pain and discomfort will go away in the next few days. But so far the entire process has been pretty miserable.

Update to my post, it actually turns out that I had Malignant Hyperthermia; and was treated for it "accidentally" with Dantrolene to stop my spasms, and talking to my doctor I was in the later stages of it as I was deteriorating in respiratory functions and cognitive functions. It's actually really scary to think that the next step was multiple organ failure, and that I was really that lucky to get the medication that I needed, and it saved my life; while being used to treat something completely different.

Doing much better now, I have had no further issues with my sleeve; and I'm able to eat and drink fine.

Yes that is what I am worried about too. Once I start adding in foods, which ones are not going to agree with me. I hope this passes quickly for you.

Oh. Wow. Glad you are ok. Now that you know you have MH you’ll have to remember and tell them for all future surgeries. And it can be hereditary. Fingers crossed that it’s smoother sailing after now. Can’t wait for updates. Take care and stay hydrated.

Day 3 post-op, surgery was Tuesday 10/23. Made it home yesterday afternoon after two days in the hospital. Pain is manageable on meds, but definitely there. Getting liquids in. Seems to get easier every day/hour. Have not seen any weight loss so far -- feel too bloated to even think it's possible right now. Trying not to be discouraged. My parents have been doing such a wonderful job taking care of me. It's nice not to feel alone in this. This thread has been of great encouragement. Thank you all for being here and being here for each other.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
