Thank you Georgetown:

That helps me a lot on making my decision. I am just nervous about the surgery and thinking about all the festivities coming up such as thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years!!

I hear ya. It’s about being prepared I think. When you go to a party, bring something you know you can eat. Plus, you’ll feel so good about yourself, you won’t want to eat badly!

I agree its about being prepared. I'm having surgery on Monday. Assuming I'm feeling up to it, I plan to go to my friend's Thanksgiving and take some baked ricotta and pureed sweet potatoes with me to eat. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Hello! I’m new to this site. My surgery date is 10/30. I’m terrified. Both of the surgery and recovery. Any recovery experiences y’all want to share would be most appreciated!

Officially halfway through my pre-op liquid diet and discovering that I can be quite hard to live with sometimes. 😞 7 days and I am losing my mind. My surgery isn't until the 29th and I am feeling like a neglectful wife/mother for missing so many events this week (my hubby's b-day dinner, my sons team dinner for football, sweetest day dinner with the family and my sons playoff selection team/community cookout). I go, so physically I am in the room, but as I sit clutching my Protein Shake watching everyone else chew their meals, I'm not enjoying myself, I'm just feeling jealous and bitter. (Partially because I had to help prepare this food that I can no longer enjoy in some of these cases.) my husband and I went to see the new Halloween movie this weekend and I cried through it...not because I was scared but because the smell of the popcorn was driving me crazy! I want to stick with this and lose the weight so that I am healthier and more active but I don't want to be this miserable all the time. Does it get easier after surgery, like once you finally transition to normal foods?

Also. when it comes to goal weights, do you have to listen to your PCP in order for the surgery to be considered successful? My husband and I have always had a goal weight of 130-140 in mind for me but, because I am only 5'1" my PCP claims I need to be 115, which I don't feel is realistic considering I haven't weighed that since the 4th grade. If I manage to pull out of this funk and get myself together, I want to know what number I am looking for and what my actual goal is.

115 lbs and you are 5'1"? That sounds crazy. I'm shorter than you (4'11") and my surgeon made my goal 120 lbs. I'm also having surgery on the 29th

That's what I was thinking as well (that 115 sounded low). My surgeon and my PCP are not on the same page as to where my goal weight should be. My surgeon is looking for 125. I'm just confused and have no idea where I should be. (But I'm pretty sure 240/250 is NOT the answer.)

@Sara_MO I’m glad you got the information you needed. I vomited blood twice after the operation and was told the same thing. A patch behind the ear helped my nausea and I felt better the next day. Thinking of you, things will get better!

I’m having gastric sleeve surgery on November 2. 2018. Will I be sore and hungry after the surgery? Will it be hard until I can eat real food again?
I just had mine a couple days ago.. the 22nd of October. Haven't felt really hungry yet.. a few random food smells caused me some interest but.. after two days in the hospital trying my butt off to put down two pint sized bottles of water.. thinking of actually eating something sounds pretty impossible.. I'm home now drinking a mix of orange juice and Water. Which is pretty difficult but I'm getting it down.

To attempt to answer your question.. the actual reality of ingesting things post the procedure gives you a decent amount of clarity.. or it has for me so far. If it hurts to drink oj/water eating anything would just be pure hell.

I’m feeling moderately better. Managed about 20oz of fluids today and going to try for another 8oz before bed. I feel less terrible but have a slight fever of 100.3. Hoping this goes away real soon. Having a bit of heartburn too. At least I think that’s what it is. I’ve never had heartburn before this.

Just going to focus on liquids again tomorrow. Need to get my fluids up!

My surgery is this afternoon. I’m trying to get some sleep but can’t shut my brain off. I’m sure you can all relate to the feeling on the day of surgery. I’ll check in again after the surgery with an update 😀

Thank you. I’m at hospital Ángeles in Juarez. No more vomiting blood and they finally started giving me meds. There’s a big language barrier but I’m using a translation app for a nurse.

the pain is mostly in my lower back though.

Oh good sounds like you are doing better except for the lower back pain. Hopefully that will subside soon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
