Ugh, so many questions... I guess we just have to figure it out as we go.

Are you going to be on a 2 week liquid diet?

Yes, I start on the 10Th. I’ve been slowly cutting back on the calories.. yesterday I had a headache and I think it was the lack of carbs so naturally gravitated towards salty food :(

These forums have been very helpful along my journey and have learned a lot from reading from other’s experiences. It’s nice to have others that are going through it with you

I'm scheduled for October 29. Still not 100% sure I'll go through with it. I've cut out caffeine, diet sodas, and am trying to eat better. But I'm still unsure. Its not the time on the table I'm worried about - its the weeks/months/years after. I mean, if I couldn't stick to healthy foods before now, why would a smaller stomach make me (at least after the initial honeymoon period). I have one more appt with my psychologist before the surgery (someone I've been seeing for awhile), so it will be interesting. Sorry for the stream of consciousness.

OK, I'm home, after my surgery yesterday (10/3). The medical staff all said I seemed good to go home, and I wasn't going to argue, but I'll be real: getting my 64 ounces tomorrow looks like an insurmountable struggle.

I nearly hurled after the car ride and the walk up stairs, but happily I did not.

Also, they really wanted me to do shots in my stomach, even though I definitely warned the surgeon I wasn't going to be able to do that, so I have to walk extra to make up for not having any blood thinner. It's a little scary.

God bless you. I'm happy to hear that all went well with your surgery.

Just stick to the diet. Its gruesome and boring, but it will prepare you for the days following surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
