Calorie intake

Recommended Posts

I’m 12 days post op. Should I be worrying about calorie intake yet? I’m averaging about 200 calories a day and physically cannot manage more. Should I be concerned? Do I not need to worry yet?

Are you getting enough Protein at 200 cals a day?
I am lower than 500 cals a day and I'm 2 weeks today. 1 - 2 Protein Shakes, Bone Broth high in protein, sf Jello, sf popsicles. 60-90 gr protein. 60 oz Water

Definitely not getting enough Protein. My NUT did tell me not to stress about that until 8 weeks post op though. I get like 25g of protein on a good day.

Are you not on puréed yets? My doctor cleared me
For puréed diet at one week. I drink one shake a day split up over three meals. I can do more than 4 oz of liquid at a time.

I should get the clearance today for pureed. My first follow up is this afternoon.

My team all asked me to focus on getting a minimum of 60g of Protein per day and Water (the protein primarily to reduce / prevent hair loss). They are positive that getting your protein in from the start is how you prevent Hair loss.

I wish that were true. :(

I'm hoping with the Protein plan I'm following and the Biotin I've been on since the beginning of the year it will be. I think there are too many other factors to consider as well. Genetics, medications, current illnesses (my hypothyroidism and uterine fibroids love to take my hair.... that's where biotin has finally helped me)... crossing fingers :) If not... then BF will have to get use to a "short & sassy" hair cut. LOL

I'm about 5 weeks post op and I am still averaging 200 calories a day as well. My Nutritionist told me not to worry about the calories or Protein count int he beginning, just worry about healing. She said I would be incapable of having anywhere near 500 calories. I eat 3 meals a day, make sure I get my protein and that's about it.

I'm in a major stall, so hoping I'm not messing up too badly!

The Hair loss is a result of the rapid weight loss. The Protein helps a bit but unless you’re losing really slow it’s inevitable.

I got to about 499 calories today. That was adding some cheese to every meal.

Lol. I love cheese and glad it has Protein but I'm guessing that somewhere down the line I should reduce my intake of it. That's going to be a sad day for me. [emoji17]

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
