Long time lurker...First time poster on this thread.

I am only six months out but have always been interested in IF - before wls I could never quite get in the groove.

Is six months to early to give IF a whirl?

I will ask my RD in July when I have my next appointment. I'm just impatient by nature and thought you all might have started before your year-aversary.

I will just research and follow this thread for the time being.

I think the basic guidelines, I'd suggest are, make sure you're able to get all your Protein in easily, without needing to supplement. (I still supplement, but just cause I'm lazy, lol) Also to make sure you're all recovered, no major complications, etc..

But I also feel strongly to keep IF in your back pocket, as a secret weapon, when your losses slow, or you are otherwise struggling. I know for me, I needed IF when my hunger monster returned. And now that I'm maintaining, I'm not purposefully IF-ing because I want to save it for if I begin to regain.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Great advice. I will follow it.

I'm still riding the unflavored Protein power train.

Hi !

I also began IF to curb hunger (works) and I became curious about the health benefits. Having your team on board is nice and also I would not recommend this for anyone who have obsessive compulsive/impulse control/eating disorders without their mental health team on board as well... First do no harm

When I presented the idea to my Team (AMAZING & SMOKING HOT Surgical PA actually 😂) i was maybe 9 months post op he was totally on board because my labs were good and like other IF VETS say i easily hit macronutrients goals from food and not supplements. His only demand was that i didn't off and do week long Water fasts (like in the desert searching for the meaning of life... I promised this- it'll never be in the desert 🏜 😂)

good luck

Thanks for the info!

Thus far I am a moderate - slow loser....which is totally okay. I just know I am going to have to throw everything I have to really get the most out of this year.

I will see what my team says in July!

Welcome newbies @RoRoKitty & @Aprilgal!

I am 36 hours in to a planned 84 hour fast. Having a terrible time keeping my head in the game lately. IF, even OMAD is not keeping me honest. I think I am a EF type of girl. One thing in for certain, I have got to get back on the ball!!

Is any else attempting an EF soon? Could always use the company!

Welcome!!! I to you both!!!

I'm starting the 5 day EF with Resetters on Monday girl! I'm doing the Super Greens + as much green veg as you want version. (Basically a FMD.) But the other option they are doing is a WF. :) We can post together. I'm getting the Super Greens and veggies this weekend! Wooohoo!

Some inspiration for us, for those times when we have to dig deep and not give in (I'm having one now as a matter of fact):

What do you eat on the FMD? How complicated would you say it is?

Well, I think she will explain this weekend. But this one is pretty simple. No animal Protein. A super greens green smoothie 2x a day and unlimited green veggies. So it doesn't sound complicated. I am getting the kind of super greens from the grocery store. I can find the amazing greens super green mix. 2g protein per drink. It's supposed to be low protein <20g per day from plant based sources. And you are supposed to limit BCAAs (which you get a lot of from protein isolate - whey). So this is a good source. And you also get protein from the things like broccoli, spinach, kale, etc.

The idea is that by limiting protein, then you force your body to consume the extra and broken Proteins in your body. So that once the fast is over and you're eating the healthy building blocks of protein again, you build new, healthy protein. Supposedly that helps you with all kinds of things, including excess skin and then building new muscle!!! By doing this, so far, my weight has remained stable. Today I'm at 138.2lbs but my body fat percent continues to drop. This morning it was at 25.6% (down from 30% at the same weight). So something is definitely changing?

More videos with more important topics!!!

Thanks for posting this! It's a legitimate topic I think we all need to be aware of--anyone contemplating or practicing IF or even EF.

One of the most important determinants of whether or not your fasting schedule has "gone to the dark side" would be to always answer the question of motivation. "Why are you practicing your fast this week?" And of course, "What do you hope to get out of your fast."

I honestly don't think that you can ever fast your way into an eating disorder. Eating disorders are mental illnesses as defined by the DSMV. But with anything, if you don't have a firm motivation, it's easy to overdo something through sheer ignorance. But ignorance still doesn't make an eating disorder.

:) Like in China, I'm pretty sure they just call it "food". Same thing in Mexico and Italy. :) So for my way of eating, I'm not following a fasting or low carb lifestyle. I just have A specific lifestyle that I follow for improved health. And the day it no longer serves to support or increase my health as proven scientifically with metrics such as labwork, CT scans, MRIs, DXA scans, tape measurements, impedence scales that measure body fat % relative to weight, etc, is the day it's time to change things up.

Just like WLS, It's important not to be a slave to your lifestyle. It's an additional tool that can help you realize your health goals. But with any tool, you may sometimes need to adjust HOW you apply the tool, or in some cases, switch tools entirely. :) Right? Flexibility. Don't lose sight of being flexible and always learning more about the science!

24hr dry fast nearly completed. Then I'll break it with tea and Water and head back into another 12hr dry fast for (medical purposes).

It always amazes me that the less you eat the less you want to eat with fasting.

Good luck to everyone doing IF & EF 💖

Thanks !!

Just a test that requires a fasted state.

Yeah its weird, it calms the hunger right down especially dry fasts because nothing is being consumed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
