@Alpaca55 I'd talk to your RD if your program has one that works with the team? Or call your cardiologist's nurse maybe? I wish I could tell you but I just don't know! :( ((hugs))

Congratulations @FluffyChix On your great work! I have read this whole thread over the last few days and it’s been such a joy. You are all very inspirational and funny and kind. I am pre op for a sleeve gastrectomy on 22 March but I’ve been doing IF (16:8-18:6) for the last six weeks. It’s been so helpful with cravings and weight loss too - I’ve lost 20 pounds so far. I look forward to using it as a tool 6+ months post op like you all. Again, well done on your wonderful achievement. Please keep all the posts coming!

Well, I can join you on the 1-year thread next week! It's amazing that this thread is up to 139 pages so far!

You need your own 1 year thread woman. We also want pics of your journey. :)

I'm gonna selfishly make my own 1 year thread and post like a ho. :)

Oh, I thought you were transitioning everyone to a one-year thread like this one for 6-months.

There was a seminal learning moment for me where he told the chief difference between a calorie restricted diet and intermittent fasting and why one drives your metabolic rate down over the long term and why the other (IF) does not! I swear it was a lightbulb moment for me.

I wonder if this has played a role in my weight loss. I was concerned I had wrecked my metabolism because I was so low cal, so many days. But it was always mixed in with higher cal, higher carb, etc. days due to travel. I may have inadvertently done a version of 5:2, but with overall lower cals?

Wooohoooo! Good morning World! I'm dressed, make-uped, and adulting this morning despite fighting a fierce cold! It's 6:22am and I'm having a cup of black coffee and waiting to leave for the doctor's office for my 1 year check-up.

Thanks to 3 solid days of 18:6 with great food behaviors, I am down to 142.2lbs this morning and met my "mini goal" for this check-up. I'm gonna call it as 80.2lbs lost since morning weigh in for surgery. That morning I was 222.4lbs and could not even imagine what it would feel like to weigh 150lbs.

Now days, every pound lost in this weight bracket is a milestone. I haven't been this weight since that one week as a senior in high school, hopped up on Ionamin (legal weight loss drugs we called yellow mollies--maybe it's phentermine or some derivative--dunno--just say, "Speed" and you'll get it) and eating ice cubes, lettuce leaves and air while playing varsity tennis and swimming. Oh lort! I thought I was so fat then, cuz I outweighed any other female classmate by at least 20lbs if not 30!

Feels good. I probably won't do a "1 year" post until I meet my 2nd goal. I hope that's by early next week, but who knows. The one thing I've learned in my life is that I cannot attach a goal date to a goal weight. The two never coincide! Nevs!

How are each of you doing?

That is awesome @FluffyChix! I'm excited for you!!! :)

Hello!

So I'm back from vacay, and trying to un-bury myself from work, with little success!

All is well here! Vacation was AMAZING, real life, not as much so! 🤣

I'm actively trying not to do IF at this time, as I'm trying to stop my weight loss. But I inadvertently do a good part of the time, just due to being busy and put off eating my first meal until afternoon.

One thing I find absolutely true about IF though, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. On vacay I ate Breakfast every day, plus Snacks, late night meals, etc. I started waking up hungry, and would become hungry shortly after having a meal. When I'm on my normal routine this is totally not the case.

I may not need IF right now, but I'm excited to have a strategy when and if I have any regain. :)

Ok, well don't just tease us! Tell us what everything is? Is that hummus, babaganoush, falafel, and omelet? Are those french fries? What an incredible breakfast! Do they eat like that every morning or would that be a feast morning? Beautiful!

From top left

Fresh OJ, omelet, various breads and crackers, fuul (stewed, mashed and seasoned fava beans), tamiya (Egyptian version of falafel, mad with fava Beans instead of chickpeas), french fries (this seemed weird!), cucumbers and tomatoes, potato salad with egg, sliced cheese, labneh with diced mild peppers (thick, rich, non-tangy yogurt), yogurt, jam, oranges, bananas, laughing cow cheese, sesame paste candy

This was definitely the most elaborate breakfast we had. But all the components, except the fries, we saw in various breakfasts, but not usually all at the same breakfast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
