Checking in ..

Continue to have a craptastic week. I technically did a 14 hr fast, but I don't think it counts since I broke the fast with a Totinos pizza roll.

Trade show is over, but will be wine-ing and dining tomorrow, so no real improvement in either my diet nor motivation in the forecast.

Was funny this week, saw lots of people I haven't seen in the last year. I can't tell you how many people straight up didn't recognize me. Good thing I had a name badge on.

Glad everyone here is having so much success, I'm so happy for y'all! :)

Thanks for this study!!! IMO the reason for such a small change in lipids are because the carbs in both diets were still too high to demonstrate the superior lipid profiles from low carb/keto dieting. :) ;) I'm sure we can expect a visit from the Coven, erp, I mean Summerset or Creek to vilify me and hound one of my posts where I mention ketogenic or low carb diets or restricting carbs as a means of controlling lipids and improving weight loss. LOL. Geeze, you'd think I'm the one making up these dietary findings...*snort*

From a personal perspective, I have no issues w blood sugar, seemingly no diabetes risk, etc. My interest in "diets" is purely from a weight loss perspective.

The support for low carb = greater weight loss is not at all universal.

For instance, this recent study http://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2018/02/low-fat-or-low-carb-its-a-draw-study-finds.html

And this article cites a few different studies https://www.vox.com/2018/2/21/17036004/do-low-carb-diets-work

I'm not a member of any coven, just someone for whom a long term low carb diet is unsustainable.

Girlfriend, bahahahaha! You are not a member of that coven but as @GreenTealael says, you ARE a member of our coven! :)

I don't disagree with you btw. If I didn't have the level of deep doodoo in my metabolism, and neither did Mr. F., I don't know if I would be doing low carb/keto-ish. I would likely be doing Mediterranean or something like that--cuz I love eating that way. And I adore Beans and legumes. But my insulin numbers tell me differently and if I eat those things, then my insulin does shoot up and so does my bgs...and so does Mr. F. :(

But I've said it all along, there are Many, Many, Many paths to the finish. And the best path for you is the one that you can do forever without feeling discontent. I will go out there and say "some carbs are evil" and very unhealthy for us...no one in their right mind needs Cheerios, unless it's to use as their emotional support animal. LOL. But hey, if you do well with wheat berries, or oatmeal, or the rustic oats (forget the name), or fill-in-the-blank of your favorite unprocessed, whole grain, potato, brown rice, wild rice, basmati, etc...and I will hop on that train with you to cheer you on.

I do envy those people. I just know I cannot do it, even if my will power holds out and let's me "eat in moderation." Sadly, magic for me always comes with a price--and that price is gonna be either higher bgs, or higher insulin.

(And that's not to say I'm a saint either...we all know I have had and do have my fair share of cheats with bread, contraband, crappy carbs, etc, etc, etc! hahahaha--I can only hope to keep it to a very, very minimum and hope like hell it doesn't fu*k me or Mr. F. up down the road. I'd hate to lose a kidney cuz of my cheesy poof addiction.

Went to support group and someone asked again about carbs and apparently my group wants you to get 50% of your 1000 cals from carbs but no more. Thats around 125g carbs if I remember correctly.

That's a lot of carbs someone said, and the NUT said not really They are leaning towards the Mediterranean type diet and allow flexibility.

I have been getting like 70g and below , sometimes a little higher with alot of Beans. I still don't think bread and grains as a regular occurrence is in my future. They just don't work well for me so I am limiting giving them up , mostly.

I was told to use these:

Protein 60-80 grams

Carbs 100 grams

Fats 30 grams

However, note that this is for gastric bypass.

Roughly the same , but definitely not low carb

Boy, we ARE a fun group, best one on this forum.πŸ’–πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜Ž

But I suck at my program right now. Leg and mainly excruciating foot cramps 3x/night are making me an absolute broom riding witch πŸ±πŸ±πŸ±πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ And then the carb monster has me by the balls at the moment. I consume around 70gr, and then 'that dog won't hunt' (scale movement up).

So now that there are no oatmeal Cookies, or cashews, or triscuits w cojack cheese in the house....I might have a snowball's chance of behaving. And I don't have any travel plans, birthday parties, or extra babysitting on the horizon. I stocked some cottage cheese, baked chicken, eggs, etc in the fridge. My surgiversary is in two weeks. I would hate to have that weigh-in show a reverse weight loss!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
