TIPS to get back on track!

Recommended Posts

This occasionally comes up in other threads and I thought it deserved a thread of its own.

After a vacation or just a period of "less-than-mindful eating", how do you get back on track and get your cravings back under control?

Curious minds want to know!

I don't know if this helps but while on vacation I eat vacation foods ... things I truly cannot get at home because there is no comparison so when I return there is no possibility of eating it.

I also try to drink more often when I think I'm hungry instead of eating.

For me, it's about mind-set. I get back, wake up, commit to the day. I can do anything for 1 day no matter how hard or uncomfortable.

Then I make my plan for the day: food/exercise/work/relaxation with my honey.

Then I drink Water like a camel! LOL. Seriously. I may drink 6-8 bottles of water worth. Maybe more?

Take ALL my Vitamins.

And the next day, I wake up and commit to the day once more. I do the same exact things.

Eventually, I get the fire back. I feel how good I feel, how much better I'm sleeping, and I start seeing scale movement after about 4-5 days. Then it gets much easier.

I do two of the things mentioned above

@GreenTealael mentioned, I try to stave off hunger by drinking fluids.

Similar to @FluffyChix mentioned, I focus on my commitment to weight loss, and making one good choice at a time (choosing Jerky over a brownie for instance)

I also focus on my NSV, and how great those make me feel, crossing my legs without even thinking about it, wearing size 10 jeans, wearing size M shirts, easily fitting in an airplane seat, feeling sexy af, lol.

This is vain, but I also think about the compliments I have received. It's one thing to think I look great, but it is affirming to hear others say it.

I don’t know if this in the same vein or not but the other night I was going through my closet. I had saved my largest favorite outfit from my highest weight. I put it on. I couldn’t believe the difference. It really showed me how far I had come, what I was capable of achieving, and that if I keep working I will reach my goals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
