When to start working out again

Recommended Posts

Surgery date- 8/22/18

I went to the gym yesterday and did the treadmill for 30 minutes. It was soooo boring but I knew it was all I could do for the time being. I had to slow down my speed because I could feel my left side tightening up. When did everyone start going to the gym after their surgery? When were you able to do weight bearing exercises? Are most of you going to the gym or losing the weight from the diet alone?

My team clears us for swimming and weight lifting at 4 weeks. It's worth checking with your team, to see what they say.

I had hernia surgery at the same time so it took me longer to start working out. My bypass was March 26th. I ride 10 to 12 miles on a bike every morning and walk my dog 20 minutes every night. I start light weight training in 10 days. Don’t be in a hurry. You have the rest of your life. January 1, 2018 379 lbs, September 1, 2018 266 lbs. I have 77 lbs more to obtain my goal, but I’m giving myself 12 months to get there.

I was told I could not work out until 6 weeks out. Same for swimming. I was cleared at just over 5 weeks at one of my follow up appointments.

I was cleared for aerobic / cardio at my 2 week check up. However my Dr said I cannot do anything that requires lifting over 20 lbs do I'm sticking to walking and Zumba for now.

I am 5 days out, still quite sore since I also had a hernia repair. I wonder if I will ever feel better and able to get back to normal things. My emotions are running high right now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
