Does anyone else feel like they are drinking too fast? I have not had too many problems getting anything down- Water, Protein Shake, broth- but I feel like I'm drinking it like I did before. It will take me about 20 min to finish a 8 ounce Protein Drink. And that is with me trying to go slow. I use the small one ounce cups- but I just drink and repeat. I'm not sure how bad.this is, but I keep reading that you shouldn't do this. What have others done?

I feel the same way. I had my gastric sleeve on 8/22/18. Everyone says to take "sips" but I can drink normally with no pain.

I had bypass on 8/16. Was drinking freely in hospital. Apparently the nurse I had normally didn't work that floor. Found it from morning nurse I was only supposed to be doing Oz at a time. Oops. I'd rather be over hydrated than to need an iv

Clear Liquids will mostly go straight through the sleeve and into the duodenum. The pyloric valve immediately lets most thin liquids through pretty quickly.

I'm 3 weeks post-op and can drink probably 6-8 oz of clear liquids most of the time pretty quickly, then repeat ~10 minutes later. Thicker Protein Shakes or Soups though - only 2-3 oz at most then must wait about 30 minutes.

With the bypass liquids should just flow through the anastomosis.

I had my RNY on 4/27/18 and could not drink in the hospital. My first sip almost drowned me, but my nurses said I had to keep trying. I did and it did get better but I think now I can drink too much!

I am also finding it difficult to take small sips. I mean I'm thirsty so why can't I just drink at a rate that is comfortable to me. Clear liquids go down very easily.

If I remember correctly, you're a revision@elcee ? We don't tend to get the same level of restriction as virgin surgeries. I've never had a problem with fluids, can chugalug with the best of them.

The lack of restriction is [emoji53] BUT I reckon it trains you to measure and weigh and listen really hard for soft signals of satiety and Godwilling we won't get the 'shock' that others do when the honeymoon is over and they have to work at keeping weight off because we already got that down pat. (That's my theory, @Matt_Z might chime in too)

I have still been drinking slowly at 6 weeks post-op because it's just become a habit.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
