Being "Fat" vs loose skin

Recommended Posts

So for those who've lost a lot of weight, do you feel like you looked/felt better overweight vs now having loose skin? I had Gastric sleeve in 2015 and lost 120lbs but now I'm not losing any more and actually gaining so thinking of Gastric Bypass. I'm 250lbs and was wondering if it's worth it considering I started at 370lbs, I'm smaller at least and worried that if I lose more I might regret it due to loose skin. I really hope I don't sound vain I obviously know that it's about being healthy but at the same time I don't want to go through this whole thing all over again and feel worse about myself.

Skin can be hidden while you save up the money for plastic surgery if that is your desire. Staying obese has more detrimental health effects than loose tidbits.

I have lost 146 pounds. I have about 38 left to make my initial goal and my primary doctors goal weight for me. There are some loose skin spots, but I in no way regret losing weight whatsoever. Once I maintain my weight and am stable for a year, I will address the areas of most concern as I see fit.

You will feel worse if you gain back up to 370 than having some loose skin.

Survey says, "Loose skin!!!!!"

I'd rather be a melted candle all the live-long-day than be the size I was bwl (before weight loss). I was so sick, and in so much pain it wasn't even funny. It stopped me from living!!! I'm only just now getting to the point of being able to do more things--loose skin and all!

You don't say how tall or how old you are -- all of which affect these. I've lost about 150 and have stuff sagging and bagging all over. I look amazing in clothes with the right support garments, but naked, I'm just a pile of rolls. Do I care? Not really. I'm HALF the person I was before. I lost a whole, damn adult. At some point will I have some plastics, sure. Right now. Not ready. I went from a size 24 to a size 6 or 8 depending on clothes. My boobs point to Argentina on a good day. I'd much rather have saggy skin and be alive to see my kids get married.

I couldn't stand how I looked EVER when I was fat. After losing +130lbs I can't stand how I look naked now, but in clothes, for the first time, I can be proud of my body.

I have the skin of a seventy-five year old mother of nine. This is not an exaggeration. For me, it is truly an impedance to intimacy.

Surgery for removal is an option for those who can afford it.

I chose loose skin over remaining fat and I am glad.

Things are very saggy without clothes, but that's what Spanx and good bras are for. I would rather be draped in loose skin that be fat again. I hated how I looked and how I felt.

I know I'm going to have bat wings really badly by the end of this process, but it's so worth it for the energy I've been experiencing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
