solid foods in phase 3

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I am new here and I am eating some solid foods and I am a little over 3 weeks out and I am tolerating everything real well I haven't thrown up. I guess I am asking has anybody started introducing solid foods earlier than phase 4 and was there any side effects? I bought Snacks from bariatric pal (moon cheese and others) and it seems to be working however I cant break the 250's)

thanks

Everyone seems to have various programs for how they progress in what they eat. I would be sure to talk with your NUT or surgeon.

My plan had me starting textured foods like ground meats, fish, lean beef, etc during week 3 and 4. Today is the end of my 4th week. I've tolerated everything I've eaten, I just can't eat much of it.

I stuck to my plan. I didn't want to take the chance of hurting my stomach or damaging the staples. Tolerating the food is one thing but what's going on where you can't see it is another. Be careful

Well you,may think I am kidding but Ohio State, sends their sleeves. home on phase 2,bypasses on stage3. Why the difference? We bypasses don't have the large staple/suture line to heal that sleeves do. So we progress on quicker than them.😛🍶😬

Just go slowly with a small taste and wait to see reaction, chew really well, no drinking with food and stop after a few bites and wait again. Some drier textures may cause reaction, some foods could cause the dreaded 'slimes' and might come back up. Sometimes you can take that 'one bite' too many and it will feel stuck or slime or you will feel slightly ill. This is why you go slowly.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
