85% of my stomach remove (sleeve)

Recommended Posts

It may seem excessive, but the process works and there have been far more success stories than negative ones. I'd much rather have a smaller stomach and control how much I can eat versus the way I was.

Oh no.... Too Late

If it's been done so many times with success how is that justified? What about bypass, is that better? Yeah it's still there but......

Some say it was to much 🤔

How far out are you from surgery? "Buyer's remorse" is really common for the first few weeks because the recovery can be rough. But look at posts 4+ weeks out, most people are really happy they did it. Hope you feel better soon!

Try to maintain a positive outlook. It's normal to feel down, to second-guess yourself, and to think that you (or your surgeon) made a big mistake. You are healing not only physically but mentally. It takes a while to adjust to your new self. Give yourself permission to express some sadness (after all, we gave up a very comforting lifestyle) and for that, we may need to mourn. Alternatively, we are also embarking on a journey... which can be exciting and scary.

I'm still scared at times. Superheroes are fictional. As real human beings, we do the best we can.

Avoid statements like "Some say..." or anything that has to do with what other people think or do. They are not you. You are you! I know that sounds corny, but when you are able to tune out other people (who may mean well), you will be happier.

Again, try to be positive. Respect your own decisions, and try not to be overly influenced by what others think or do.

Im 5wks post op and I feel great now, I got the reinforced sleeve which makes me think that was the reason why I had a rough recovery that took me 15 days.

What is a reinforced sleeve? I haven't heard of that one.

Glad you're feeling better, though.

My Doctor said that a reinforced gastric sleeve is to prevent bleeding and staple-line leak, which are the most common complications. They first staple the sleeve and then sew it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
